A place to stay near Monet's place?

We will be driving from Paris, and hoping to stop at Giverny as we make our way. We have websites for Giverny and nearby Vernon, but were hoping for some suggestions for places to stay that are quite close by, as we'll be tired, and will also want a good dinner.
Is the American Museum close to the Monet site? Thank you.

A lot of folks here make La Chaine d'Or in Les Andelys (a bit farther on from Giverny) their first night stay after picking up the car at CDG/Paris, if heading to Normandy.(?) La Chaine d'Or is a beautiful country hotel situated on the Seine, and it has a wonderful restaurant. I think it's perfect if you're traveling north.
I think the website is www.lachainedor.com but you an google it if that doesn't work.

The Giverny website itself gives you lists of hotels and B&Bs within a certain distance, did you see it? There aren't that many, so it's not like there are tons of choices.

thank you for the specific suggestion of Chaine d'Or; we've booked it. The reviews here and at other sites like
tripadvisor are good.
It's good to know that the American Museum is also easy to get to.
This website had more direct museum information and this spring and summer the exhibits will include photographs by Paul Strand.

Mimi, not to be argumentative, but I'm not so sure that it is all that popular with Americans in general; it seemed "very French" when we were there. I think it's become well known on here b/c a number of us have stayed there (and keep talking about it!), but I bet most Americans traveling in France have never even heard of Les Andelys.I may be mistaken, but this is my take on it.

There is a very nice B&B in Giverny called La Reserve--not walking distance but near Monet House & Garden. We had lunch at the restaurant at the American Museum & owners of LR recommended an excellent retaurant for dinner in Vernon. The B&B is surrounded by acres of peace and quiet with an apple orchard in the back and pheasants wandering about. We hope to return some day.

Not sure if you found a room yet or not - but I stayed at at hotel that was a short walk to the gardens. I thought it was very nice. It was quiet and the restaurant served decent food. The best part was getting up in the morning and being first in line to enter the gardens! It was very easy to find because it is on the same small road that the gardens are on.

I also stayed at La Musardiere and would stay there again. You eat breakfast, walk out the door, turn left, and you can get to the gardens when they open and before all the tours show up!

They're also listed at the www.giverny.fr web site.
