a place for four travelers to stay on a budget

We are flying into Rome on Dec 23 but will shortley be heading to Florence to visit our daughter who will be spending her junior year there. There are 4 of us travelling, My husband, myself, our 15 yr old son and my mother in law. Kind of a weird configuration, and 2 rooms won't work becasue I don't think my 15 yr old is going to be comfortable sharing a room with his grandmother. I'm looking for places that have possibly some sort of suite or apartment where we all might be allowed some privacy. We are not wealthy--so we have some budgetary concerns. (Iam not eager to purchase gramma and junior their own rooms) Any suggestions of places to consider in both Rome and Florence?

Try the San Lorenzo apartments owned by Gianna Galeota. There are several to choose from and they are affordable, modern, clean and very conveniently located a half block from the Duomo. We were very happy there on our last trip and would rent there again.

What a wonderful suggestion, Statia. I have bookmarked it for my trip. Thanks for asking the question, Patricia.

Hi PS,

Have you considered Sharing a room w/grandma while Jr shares a room w/Dad?

You might want to look into the B&B Peterson in Florence.

Thanks for the advice--I've emailed about the apartments and if that doesn't work out for some reason, I'll check out the B&B. I'm going to look for apartments in Venice and Rome too.

patriciasteen,
You might look at Il Pozzo http://www.agriturismo.com/ilpozzo/default_uk.htm . It is about a ten minute bus ride from downtown Florence but you can rent 3 rooms for about 165 euro and have plenty of space in the garden and other rooms.

Patricia, I can recommend Venice Rentals for apartments in Venice. We used them in 2003 and are using them again this fall.
