The painted tree shadows on those buildings at Place Saint André des Arts were perfect for many years, and then those tags arrived and it is just not the same anymore.

Your charming photos tell a story of life in Paris. I especially liked the 2 kids with umbrellas. I give you credit for traveling alone, but how is it eating dinner in a restaurant alone? That would be hard for me.

I would normally have lunch in a café, and dinner at my apartment. I am not quite at the stage where I am comfortable having dinner alone at a fancy restaurant. |

Glad you had a nice trip. I have not done an entire solo trip, but have traveled alone to meet my daughter, and I did enjoy the solo portions. I also often spend a whole Saturday playing solo tourist in my own area. Looking forward to more of your report! |
One day I took the bus out to the Musee Marmottan. This was a bit of an adventure as I got on what I thought was the right bus, but it was going in the wrong direction. “No problem”, I thought, “I will just ride it all around the route and eventually arrive at Porte de la Muette. But when we got to Gare de Lyon, the bus driver said it was the end of the line and everyone had to get off. Harrumph! I had to cross the street and get on the one going the other way. Oh well, no worries, I am on vacation, and I'm in Paris. I just saw it as an opportunity to see part of the city that I had never seen before.Anyway, I loved the Musee Marmottan. So many beautiful paintings, and Monets in particular, which is why I went. An entirely different vibe from the D'Orsay. Much less busy and more relaxed. Lots of benches to sit on and view that paintings in an unhurried manor. Kerouac, You sum up my feelings exactly too. Just like the rest of life everything is a trade off. I do like my co-pilot for driving in other countries, so maybe the exception to my afore mentioned agreement,

One of the things I enjoyed in Paris was walking around at night taking pictures, even in the rain. Apparently I take on my alter-ego when I am there, as I would never dream of doing this at home. The rain did make for some beautiful reflections.

I enjoyed sitting in cafes, too, and would often stop in at the neighbourhood “Paul” on my way home from the day's activities. So much fun to sit and enjoy a cafe creme and a pastry and people watch.

On Thursday I took a small group tour to Claude Monet's home in Giverny. There was only myself and two other ladies. I had considered doing it the DIY route (like my husband and I did the last time we went there), but I decided, for various reasons, that I would splurge this time and go with the small van tour. I was picked up and delivered right in front of my apartment. Our driver spoke very good English, and gave us a bit of commentary and played a DVD about Giverny.
We were let in the lily pond garden half an hour before opening time because of being with a tour. Our driver told us to meet him back in the parking lot right in front at 1:00 and we were free to wander and explore at our own pace. It was so beautiful! Like stepping into a painting. Thank you all for your kind comments.The flowers in the main garden were not at their peak, of course, this being October, but there was still lots of colour, and I am glad that I went.
