Souther,

Perhaps I can help. My wife who is a Basel, CH (Swiss) native and I frequently visit Schweiz (Oops! That's German. Switzerland.) around 3 times a year.

We just both returned from there back to America after 4 glorious weeks there.

Locarno which is in the Ticino canton (state) in the southern most part is absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful!
The tall, majestic Alps mountains nestling the serene, clean Lago Magiorre. A real sight! Summers especially are beautiful, sunny and warm. A very temperate climate.

Basel is also worth visiting if you have time. That's where Deutchland, France and Switzerland's borders come together. Along the Rhein river. Also a beautiful place. It's in the German
speaking region. Ticino region is Italian speaking. Where you may be at is French speaking (Geneva). Don't fear! Many, many Swiss speak English better than some Americans! They like Americans.

The Swiss culture is one of an orderly society. They usually are NOT loud people and are very reserve but approachable. They may not appear to be friendly because of this. Unlike the Americans. However, they are some of the most efficient and clean people I have ever met. Not to mention, a hard working bunch with strong work ethics. But they know how to enjoy their lives as well.

The food in my opinion is of high quality. The service is generally very good in most places. The Swiss command higher wages so things are more expensive consequently.

Enjoy your holiday!
