She also sent me to the Therma in Meersburg but forgot to tell me I must not wear a bathing suit there...when I told her how naked I felt with my swimsuit on, and the grumblings I heard about it, she told me how while living in Australia she strolled into a sauna butt-naked and almost gave a stroke to all the very covered Aussies in there...

"To satisfy the non-history buff we head to Santorini for sun and sea in October - and maybe a little history too"

I was there two weeks ago and I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time with your girls. Bring your camera and lots of film or a large memory card for your digital.

We spent several hours at Kamari Beach two weeks ago and had an awesome waffle with scoops of ice cream and praline sauce in a cafe a few doors down from the parking lot and next door to the small supermarket.

The beach is lovely, black sand, clean water, shade and sun, a changing booth -- wish I was back there now.

It sounds like you're getting around and enjoying it, good for you. Keep on traveling!

not to get on a theme, but do they wear swimsuits on that beach? My husband and I honeymooned in Greece and it was pretty clothes free. My girls are thinking that sounds really "gross"... heh, heh...

>Logos - where are you in Germany?
Downtown Munich. Come to Germany to learn German, you're never going to learn to speak their local dialects, but if you answer in high German, they'll understand. And here we're at least as sarcastic as the Swiss, maybe even better . You'll love it. But don't you dare making a spelling mistake, you'll be deported ;-) (back to Switzeland that is)

The language thing here is tricky. Speak Hochdeutsch and the Swiss answer in English. No one even teaches Swiss German unless you're already fluent in German. We went to a language school in Meersburg for a week so we could really use the language outside of class. Funnily, we were accuse d there of speaking German with a Swiss accent

Once you don't get criticized/accused any more you're perfect. Until then, keep working. ;-)

>My German teacher really made me laugh one day when she said the Germans are guilty of being more Swiss than the Swiss

I thought it is the other way round? The Germans distrusting the Swiss for being more German than the Germans?

Anyway, have a look at the Clubschule Migros - they have inexpensive Swiss German courses (the only ones available short of private tutoring AFAIK). Whether you will speak Züridüütsch or some blanded-down variant of the Swiss German is another question...

I have lived in CH for awhile and never felt this European hatred of Americans directed at me. I may get into an occasional small political discussion but nothing big. I don't really wear my Americanism on my sleeve and I do appreciate why some people don't like America (it is because we are very powerful) - ask the British, they are still quite unpopular in parts of the world due to their era of power.

Yes, they wear bathing suits. I didn't see any topless, nothing gross.
