Thanks, mimi.

I love Daniel Auteil. I find him so sexy.

I liked Charlotte Gainsbourg in Ma Femme Est Une Actrice, although I think it was the guy playing her husband (don't know his name) who really stole the show.

Scarlett Jan 23rd, 2005 01:14 PM

Oh Merci, Mimi!
I cannot wait to see it. I too like Daniel Auteuil very much.

cigalechanta Jan 23rd, 2005 01:16 PM

Elle, did you see his ex-wife in "Nellie and Mr. Arnaud?"A much under appreciated film.

cigalechanta Jan 23rd, 2005 01:21 PM

I would like to see his only English film (1999) where he plays an exiled dectective and encounters a pedophile ring. "The Lost Son."

Scarlett Jan 23rd, 2005 01:28 PM

Mimi, you know the actress in the Lost Son, Katrine Cartledge? She died in 2002..very sad, so young. I liked her in a few British films she was in. She was in Naked :)

Lest we forget Auteuil gave a riveting performance in both Jean de Florette and the sequel Manon of the Springs. Unforgettable movies about life in Provence.

cigalechanta Jan 23rd, 2005 02:46 PM

RJD,Those films were his gateway to fame and the ten year relationship with the mother of his child, his co-star Emmanualle Beart.
Scarlett, not available at my local vid. shop.

No, I didn't see "Nellie and Monsieur Arnaud". Thanks for the reco--I'll add it to my Netflix queue.

What is it about him? He's certainly not the best looking French actor (Vincent Perez wins my vote there). But oh-la-la, I am so drawn to him.

cigalechanta Jan 23rd, 2005 04:33 PM

he like my fav, Jean Reno, were born in the same place!

cigalechanta Jan 23rd, 2005 04:39 PM

Pardon! Correction:
Auteuil was born in Algiers (like Camus)
Reno in Casablanca, Morocco

ninasdream Jan 23rd, 2005 05:08 PM

Thanks- I missed this one. I liked My Wife is An Actress, and yes, that was her husband.

Whatever you do, do not see Before Sunset with Ethan Hawke....dreadful.

ninasdream Jan 24th, 2005 04:06 PM

What a shame, because Before Sunrise was utterly charming.

Ronda Jan 24th, 2005 06:06 PM

I did like the Paris shots in Before Sunset. It was a little long though.

I have been trying to think of the name of a recent French Canadian Film release but can't remember the name. I want to see if it is out on video yet. It is about a doctor who goes to a small town in a backwoods area in Canada to be the only doctor. I thought it was "The Education of....." Anyone have a clue?

elle Jan 24th, 2005 06:14 PM

I hated Before Sunrise, largely because Ethan Hawke's character was such a self-absorbed, self-indulgent immature dufus. I did like Julie Delpy, though.

I'll probably rent Before Sunset just for the scenery and turn off the sound whenever Hawke opens his mouth.

cigalechanta Jan 24th, 2005 06:17 PM

Hawk looked so dissipated, that I couldn't find him attractive.

Ronda
Seducing Doctor Lewis

cigalechanta Jan 24th, 2005 08:07 PM

Title in French on vid is "Le Grande Seduction."

Ronda Jan 28th, 2005 08:23 PM

Sorry to be so tardy in responding. Thank you, Scarlett!
