A new book for Francophobes/philes
You might want to read a new book by Richard Chesnoff, veteran foreign correspondent and New York Daily News op-ed columnist, and a 15 year resident of the. south of France.
"The Arrogance of the French: Why They Can't Stand Us-and Why the Feeling is Mutual" There is a short interview with the author in US News & World Report, April 25. page 20. |
I hesitate to ask, but is the title tongue-in-cheek? If not, why did the writer stay there for 15 years?
|
I guess you'll have to read the book. He still lives there.

From Amazon.com Editor review:
"...Pitched somewhere between just kidding and deeply affronted, this book from the veteran U.S. News Paris correspondent (and now contributing editor) systematically airs most of the complaints on both sides of the Franco-American equation, but with an exasperated jingoism that makes clear on every page where his loyalties lie....Imagine the fun Mark Twain would have had with France’s undeclared war on America. That’s the kind of humorous insight that journalist Richard Z. Chesnoff delivers in this book....This will be the perfect book for anyone who has ever wondered how a beautiful love affair between two countries could go so wrong..." |
Thanks jsmith. I'm now reading Apple's book, "Apple's America." (ass. Ed. NYT)

You can read an essay by Chesnoff, that I suspect is a précis of his book, here:
