A "Must Not Miss" restaurant in Dublin
 

If you had one evening in Dublin and wanted to have a memorable (not just expensive) meal, where would you go? We are staying at the Gresham Hotel on O'connell Street.

The more expensive one are probably the more memorable meals. Let me knwo which one you go to.

There was an article in the February (?) issue of Bon Appetit on dining in Dublin.

Among the ones mentioned I remember Chapter One ( I couldn't get a reservation there, so book early if you are interested) and the Mermaid Cafe, which I loved. Informal, hip spot with an eclectic menu. You also need reservations there.

Siobhan--I was told there was just one restaurant in Dublin with a Michelin star, but I can't remember the name. Any ideas?

Restaurant Patrick Gilbaud and Thorntons both have Michelin stars.

Patrick Guilbauld still definately does, don't know about Thorntons but they probably do from what I have read about them. I think another place either lost its star...or maybe it was Peacock Alley that lost it when open???

Did you hear Conrad Gallagher is in South Africa cooking now? That man has nine lives like a cat! Loved the Food in Peacock Alley when it was open.

From Siobhans list I have tried

Shanahans on the Green - loved it! I haven't got a bad word to say about it!!
The Chili Club - if you like Thai food, this is definitely a great place to go.
Patrick Guilbauld - fantastic food, but a little bit too attentive - in that you take a sip of wine and they refill your glass.
Les Freres Jacques - gorgeous!
One Pico Restaurant - I loved it but have heard mixed reviews. The scallops are divine!
Brownes Brasserie And Town House - again, gorgeous food, and the building is beautiful - a lovely setting
Cafe Mao - very cafe style. OK food but service seemed rushed.
FXB Restaurant - it's a bit like a steak house, have been there twice - first time was great, second was OK.
Elephant & Castle - good filling tasty food in a good location in temple bar.

Most I have tried through business dinners, even the Old peacock Alley. I was fortunate to work for Germans who loved their food. I haven't had Frere Jacques but it is the top French restaurant from what I have heard from others who ate there. Looking forward to trying Shanahans soon and saving up for it! The top end restaurants are pricey in Dublin but they are a great dining experience for a treat. You can pay less and still eat well in Dublin though.

Shanahans is WELL worth saving up for - it's without doubt the best steak I have ever tasted.

I have lived permanently over here for 9 years and back and forth from America as a kid over the years but we never managed to move back.

I was fortunate enough to work for several european companies over here and go on company dinners. I would always book and try a new place each time. Some great places have closed down but there are a few great ones that never seem to die out.

Saying that there are good medium priced places but they are hard to find as a tourist. Some are listed above.

Let us know where you eat and check the prices on the web before you go so you don't get a shock at the restaurant you choose! Enjoy

A Great Victorian Pub and Restaurant Nancy Hands 30-32 Parkgate st. Dublin 8 (pub of the year 1999)

Rollys Bistro Ballsbridge low on prentensions fantastic food service with artist chef colin o daly prices reasonable considering all of the above.

I have to second that nomination for Roly's - great restaurant!
