a month in germany....where to stay?

we'll be in germany for the month of may and need your help. biking along rivers on a bike path is our goal for a week or two. we think a week in each village is a good plan for us. can you recommend some charming villages? further, have you stayed in any apartments you liked?
thanks.

Please be more specific about where in Germany you want to go, which regions etc. Germany is not a little island with just one river and two or three villages. We'd like to help you, but this way it's hardly possible.

Why not have a look at the "Pfalz" region. there are innumerable quaint little villages to the west of the Rhein along the "Weinstrasse" which are very popular with local bikers. The weather should be perfect at that time of year too. Good luck!

For the biking portion you might also try the Mosel. Villages & stops would be fairly frequent, & the riding easy.

We stayed a week in an apartment in Oberammergau several years back. It's a wonderful little village and convenient to numerous sites and castles in the Bavaria area. It also has a very large water sports complex.

This was 12-14 years ago and we got the apartment from the NATO School there in Oberammergau. I would do a search. There are lots of apartments in chalets there.

bike the romantic road. There is a separate bike path along most if not all of it. There are also bike rides that you can do out of Rothenburg. check www.germany-tourism.de and www.fahrrad-tour.de

Check www.rothenburg.de for a list of accomodations, including apartments that offer good value.

Bikeline has an overall map of biking tours in Deutschland with a companion book on accomodations ("Bett and Bike"). See at amazon.de

http://www.amazon.de/Bikeline-Radtou.../dp/3850000982

There are other companies that provide similar information. I traded a few emails with rider from the Pflaz that recommended a tour on the Weser River and said that the Tour on the Danube (Donau) into Austria was the best of them all.

Here is a website with several trip reports and personal experience by a couple that loves to tour Germany by bike:

We drove a bunch of the romantic road and we saw quite a few people biking - looked like a really great place for it. We saw a lot of bikers at the southern end near Fussen and Schwangau too - beautiful countryside.
