Actually let's use this link, I had to re-post since I had forgotten to mark it as a TR..silly me! http://www.fodors.com/community/afri...t-225352-2.cfm

(is there a way to go back and mark it as such without re-posting??)

Maybe this will help your washing / drying problem:
As you seem to have access to the internet, google your machines name/make and get the instructions or manual in English online from the manufacturer's website.
Btw.. More than one hour to 90 mins for a regular 40C washing cycle is normal. Our machines usually economize on water and detergants and need longer time to shuffle the dirty clothes around.

Personally, I find an apartment with bottle opener and corkscrew and enough glassware very well equipped. ( just kidding)

If you need any household items for very little money, try the neighborhood stores. If you live in a regular residential downtown neighborhood you should find a tiny "99c store" usually run by Asians nearby, for stuff like clothes pins, baking trays, cutlery etc.. I doubt you will pay more than 10-15 € for all you still miss altogether. If you want more stylish stuff, try Vinçon on Passeig de Gràcia.

It sounds like you are doing a trip similar to what my husband and I did a few years ago before we had kids. I love it! We were young, in Europe for 6 months, lived in 4 different locations, and traveled on the weekends. My husband was on NY time so our schedule was funky too, but we loved it! Eating dinner at 11:00 at night, going out for a midnight gelato, sleeping late and enjoying our late mornings in the city. An experience I will hold onto forever. We too had so many daily problems like you have had. So incredibly frustrating, but also such an amazing learning experience. Have a blast!

We are heading back to Europe this May....with our 3 year old and 1 year old! Ah! Wish us luck! It will be a short 2 week jaunt, but we'll be staying in Barcelona for about 5 days and the Berner Oberland in Switzerland for about 5 days. I'll have to read your blogs closely to see what catches my attention as something babies may like to do. Probably lots of park days!

Thanks for submitting this. I still kick myself for not doing a blog or writing trip reports of our Europe adventure. Good job!

Thanks! GilssinEurope - that sounds EXACTLY like what we are doing! Curious as to where else you guys lived on your trip? We are going to Paris, Bologna, Galway, and Tel Aviv (we have family there). It's nice to hear from someone else who has done this and looks back on it fondly, as I'm sure we will!

There are a lot of parks here to enjoy with your kids. Be warned that if you go to Parc Guell there is a lot of walking to get there, much of it uphill.

I will be posting a few more entries on Barcelona and then we are off to Paris!

Here is another entry, on a tour we took of the old city: http://www.eatdreamtravel.com/2012/0...oring-our.html

Sharbear - we had friends in the Black Forest area of Germany so we started out there. After that we would go wherever we found cheap train tickets and a decently priced apartment! Ha! From Germany, we ended up going to Florence and loved every minute of it! Then we ended up in a small, dingy, and very disappointing town near Rome. And our last homebase was in Vienna at Christmastime and it was magical. Sounds like you guys will be pretty spread out! That's awesome! You'll get to experience so much!

And the final, wrap-up, "best of" (in my opinion) Barcelona post: http://www.eatdreamtravel.com/2012/0...barcelona.html

I will be continuing onto Paris, hope some of you will follow my blog there as well! I"ll start a new thread on here too.
