A Michelin guide recalled
 

The Michelin Benelux red guide( it's distributed in Belguim, Netherlands and Luxemberg) has been taken off the shelves because there is a restaurant reviewed that was open at the time it was written. This comes at a bad time for Michelin whose reputation has been tarshed because of an ex
reviewer wrote a book exposing(alledgedly)some things that is selling hot.

Do you mean the restaurant was not open?

I remember reading an article on the expose some time early last year, I think.

What are the alternative guides? Do people like Gault-Millau? I guess Michelin stars are worth committing suicide over, so the guide must be good. (A bit of a sarcastic remark here -- but I do enjoy reading the Michelin guide.)

Actually the suicide of Bernard Loiseau came after a downgrade from Gault-Millau; Michelin had reaffirmed 3 stars.

Interesting. I thought someone lost a star and committed suicide.

I guess the standard criticism about Michelin is that the old favorites can do no wrong, and it takes time for new restaurants to be recognized. I do think that there's some truth to it (but obviously my experience is limited).

Irs :) having a senior moment. The restaurant was still under construction when the review was published. The owner had a deal with the reviewer.
The chef that committd suicide had been depressed for about a year according to his wife.

The singing cicada is right about the depression. Didn't mean to imply that the suicide was precipitated by Gault-Millau. There was a whole lot going on in Loiseau's life, including tremendous business stress.
