I do not think produce at Waitrose is over the top expensive and they definitely have bulk produce, if you are looking for more basic stuff. If you plan to shop for veggies at Borough Market, Waitrose could seem like a bargain. But who cares, you are on vacation. There is a newish Eataly by Liverpool street station, so if you are going to Spitalfields may be worth a stop. I have not been in that one yet but others in the chain have some fun stuff for self caterers.

Thank you RG---will add Yum Bun to our list. And, we'd seen that new Eataly on some of the latest maps. Seems to be maybe a 20 min. walk from us. *Patrick, a glance at the map has just taught me about Whitechapel.

Never worry about any hijacking Heti. I am of the opinion that one needn't be so, what's the word...'anal'? As in real life, conversations often go here and there, twisting around topics. I meant to indicate this attitude in the very first post/list of questions, encouraging any and all who may be Brit-bound or have experience there, to feel free to deviate within the thread. No probs. But that intent got lost in the exhaust.

Anyway, a different topic now. We are being told that the further one goes in England, say in York, people are more likely to be rude. Does this apply to our rudeboy Bilbo? Could his constant barrage of foul-mouthed opinion, unresolved anger and contrarianism be considered the norm for that part of England-land? Rumour has it that he has long been incarcerated at the Roy Keane Anger Management facility in Ipswich----is this true?

Zebec, are you staying close to Whitechapel? There is also Watney market, where you can buy from stalls with produce, and a lot of other stuff. Don’t expect glamor, though.

it all just passes me by, I'm a born southerner through and through and find the people of Yorkshire extremely friendly. I don't know who Roy Keane is but hey no one is perfect. Strangely one of my local villages is called Askwith (note spelling) and I know 4 people who live there, 3 are perfectly nice but one is a dour Yorkshire farmer, who while not rude, does struggle to say good morning to people. Perhaps a distant relation to the AsquithFamily, who knows.

I find Yorkshire folk (of whom the people of York are a small percentage and far far away) 95% very friendly, 4% a little shy and 1% unaware of how to behave. I suspect this is the norm for the human race, but in Yorkshire such 1% seem to gravitate to sell fireplaces and books. Why I don't know.

1) Roy Keane was an Irish footballer infamous for his relentless toughness, a style that earned him countless numbers of yellow and red penalty cards. My Glasgow-born work buddy/school soccer-coach was in awe of the all-star, "Zebec I tell you---he's a hard man!"
2) One of my most crucial mentor/Principal bosses, Brian Hibbert, was from York. One could never forget his personal office. Mr. Hibbert kept live lizards in a dry aquarium there, fascinating both the kids plus the staff. That kind man was crucial to the biggest promotion of my career, without which our travels may've been severely reduced.
3) A certain 'Asquith Press' based in our city's excellent Reference Library, has the inside track to do the POD publishing of the second-edition update of my musical memoir. That would've happened long ago if not for covid.
4) I am glad that you can take a joke, Bilbo.
