A long weekend in and around Nice

Hi All,
Here is a trip report of my recent trip to Nice and surrounds for the Easter weekend. It may be of help to anybody planning a short trip to this area.

Suja: thanks for your report on a city and region we really love,(we were there last september). On your next visit don't miss Villa Ephrussy.

Great report and photos - thank you!

Thank you jelopez and Tulips. I shall make a note of Villa Ephrussy, I am aware that we barely scratched the surface of this region..
Cheers. Suja

Great pics! Too bad the weather want a bit nicer. We were there at Easter two years ago and enjoyed warm, sunny days. Now you have a reason to go back! Such a beautiful part of the world.

@msteacher: Thank you :) I was a bit down the first day because of the weather but that is one thing one cannot depend upon if you plan things in advance. Oh well, a good excuse to go back :)

thank you for the report. It was lovely.
I will be in Nice at the end of August and still have not booked a hotel
Can I please know where you stayed and what you thought. We will have a car too, so searching hotels has been a bit difficult.

@millie: Thank you :) We stayed in hotel Oasis http://www.hotelniceoasis.com/en/ I chose it precisely because of having a car with us. They have 6 parking places, quite safe as the gate is closed at night. You need to reserve the parking at the time of booking. They charge only 10 Euro per night for the parking which is a good deal compared to the Euro 2.40 per hr / 24 euros per day rate at the public parking sites. The added problem with public parking is that if you were to take out the car, you will lose your per day rate (I think) and will end up paying by the hour which is more expensive. The hotel was clean; it is whatever you can expect of a 3 star place. No lobby to speak of. Receptionists were friendly and helpful. There is a lift but the corridors do have a few steps in the higher floors so you will need to ask about wheelchair access if you need it. Breakfast buffet at 12 euro per head was more expensive than what you get out in the restaurants but it suited us to eat before we left for the day. It is about a 20 min walk from the old city, 10 min from the promenade. A quiet street, we were not disturbed at night. There is some kind of building work in progress but we heard nothing; I think they may have stopped for Easter. All in all, it is a good choice for its price range, not at the heart of things but convenient enough if you don't mind the walk.
Cheers. Suja

Hello suja

We were just going to park in a public car park, but never thought about paying by the hour. Like you, we will use the car to drive around the area. So I never thought it would cost me lots more
thank you for that. it is very much appreciated
