a local's Paris?
My husband and I are planning to spend 2-3 days in Paris. We both have been to Paris before and are looking for hotel and restuaruant suggestions that are not so "touristy" and/or are in interesting off the beaten-track locations? Thanks.

In which districts have you stayed in before? Not sure what is meant by "interesting off the beaten track locations". I'd guess you mean you don't want to be in the city center since you say you don't want to be in a not so "touristy" area. Maybe try any of the double digit numbered arrondissements for off the beaten track areas??

We'll be in Paris/Amsterdam this fall, and for our last night in Paris (after returning from A'dam), we'll be staying in the 17th eme at the Hotel de Banville. This is supposedly a beautiful residential area, off the beaten tourist track but still a short metro ride away from the "center" of things. The hotel looks lovely on its website (www.hotelbanville.fr).

I like the 17eme (as strass has mentioned), but here's another idea, for a very different part of town. Stay in the 13eme, in or near the Butte aux Cailles neighborhood. Tres vie quotidien. Hotel le Manufacture, while closer to the Gobelins area rather than the heart of the Butte aux Cailles, might be a good choice. There are a number of restaurants in the area that cater primarily to locals. strass, so you opted for the Banville? I look forward to hearing your reactions. |
That should be "quotidienne," I think. Just trying to slap myself before someone else does it for me. |
Yes, we did, Elle--thanks! It looks like a great place and perfect for our final night (closer to the airport, too). I'll report back in September.
I showed the website to my mom, a true Francophile who's planning her third trip, and she was impressed, too. |
