StuDudley - We are traveling from La Roque Gageac to Bordeaux on Saturday, June 21 to catch the train. I checked June 7 from Brive using http://en.voyages-sncf.com/en/ and still only see the multiple changes. Prices were higher as well from Brive when we can get PREMS from Bordeaux for €20. I have also already paid for the car through Kemwel and rates are now higher.

IDTGV schedules are loaded for June. Regular & TGV schedules are not yet loaded for June 21. You won't see any TGV schedules for Bordeaux to Paris on June 21 - only iDTGV runs, which can be reserved more than 3 months in advance.

Regarding Kemwel. Last week I called Kemwel after I noticed that they had lowered their rates for an internet "sale". I have 3 cars reserved for this year, and they re-did my reservation, saving me $420. The "sale" may still be on.

Driving to Bordeaux and then taking the train to Paris is fine - but it will take you a little longer than leaving from Brive (and visiting charming Collognes la Rouge on the way).

I was not certain whether you were considering driving to Paris vs taking the train. Several people have "jumped in" on txtree's post.

I'm not 100% sure - but I don't think Kemwel would charge you more if the only thing you changed was the drop-off location. Call them. Also consider dropping off the car in Libourne and taking the TGV from there. It will save you some driving time & hassle. Check with Kemwel.

If you want to stay in Sarlat I can recommend La Villa des Consuls. We stayed there last year. They have apartments for 4 persons. Excellent ratings tripadvisor, Rick Steves, etc. David rents out parking, or you can park free in a large nearby lot. Optional breakfast or many bakeries, cafes steps away.Free washer/dryers. David let us check in in the morning.

David has a list of recommended restaurants, map handouts of driving tours, all very helpful.
A couple of restaurants that I really liked were Le Bistro de l'Octroi, Les Jardins d'Harmonie,La Petite Tonnelle in Beynac, Le Petit Paris in Daglan, and lunch at Jardins de Marqueyssac near Beynac.

After being in the traffic and business of Sarlat I was so happy that we were in the countryside of St Cyprien - my kids could just run off and we never worried and with an on-site restaurant at Le Chevrefeuille we had leisurely 3 hour dinners outside on the patio and the kids could come and go. Although, as someone noted maybe teens would like to roam the town but the after a busy day of sightseeing our pool was fabulous. I would go back and stay at the same spot in a minute.

So I think our choice is to stay those two nights either IN Sarlat (both Les Cordiliers and Villa des Consuls have availability - they both look good) or out a bit in St. Cyprien (Le Chevrefeuille also has availability). I agree about begin in the countryside, but we'll be doing that for the next four nights. Luckily our kids are at ages where they can roam a town by themselves, sit for long dinners, and/or hang out in their room, so I'm leaning toward Sarlat. Especially because we would be there on a Wednesday morning for the market.

Thanks for the link to the article doorcountygirl - it is helpful.

And thanks again, everyone.
