A Homage to Cathedrals

Hi everybody,
Here's a report of my recent trip to see some of the great Gothic cathedrals in France in Troyes, Reims, Amiens and Rouen.

Hello Suja :)

Love your blog! Thanks for sharing.

We also love visiting the cathedrals. And even after seeing so many, my jaw still drops when I enter. Such beauty!

Last summer, we were driving thru the Alsace Lorraine region towards Grand. We noticed this cathedral spire looming way off to our right up into the hills. It wasn't on our radar for the day, but we figured -- what the heck, let's go check it out.

It was the Basilique du Bois-Chenu, located just past Domremy-la-Pucelle, the birthplace of Joan of Arc. Talk about jaw dropping, eye popping beauty. It's not even rated a star in the Michelin guide. Inside there are beautiful frescoes and mosaics illustrating the life of Joan of Arc. The domed ceiling - WOW!

Happy travels!

@Isabel : Thank you, glad you liked it :)

@Swisshiker : Thank you :) Your description of the Basiqlique sounds wonderful. As I have been to quite a number of Joan of Arc related sites (Orléans, Chinon, and now Rouen), it will be interesting for me to visit this.
