A good place to stay in Trastevere?
Hello. First time to Italy. Solo. Woman. Think I will spend a few days exploring Rome. I hear that Trastevere is a cool (a touch off the beaten path, not uber touristy) part of town and one in which I may want to stay for a few nights as I explore Rome. Does anyone have any good, reasonably priced suggestions? Hotel, hostel, B&B, pensione? Thanks very much. Or if not in Trastevere, another good place?

Can't help with accommodation, but I think you've made a good decision. Trastevere is a lovely area and handy to the main tourist sites. I hope you love Rome!!

Arco del Lauro is a charming b&b , more a tiny inn, the owner is charming and always ready to help. I think you will feel great staying by yourself in this lovely b&b.
It feels like being with friends in a house in the trastevere. great location. Look for reports in tripadvisor |
This thread has lots of good suggestions. It describes different sections of Trastevere which may be especially interesting to you

We stayed at the Hotel San Francesco in Trastevere and we loved it. It's in a very convient location for taking the tram into the historical centre of Rome and we even walked it several times.
It was also the best breakfast we had in our whole stay in Italy. |
Hi,
I love too trastereve but beware that during summer it could be noisy as is a very living zone of the city. Lots of people which waves from Pizzeria to wine Bar and so on until late hour. Very amusing, very warm and friendly but a little noisy too. It's a great zone so with few minutes walking you can reach the very heart of rome, like campo de' fiori, piazza navona, panthon area which also are very good area to stay but little more expensive. For accommodation in rome, as a solo an hotel room can be cheaper than a B&B or vacation rental. |
Graziella, I was so glad to read your post. I'm going to Rome by myself in November, and Arco Del Lauro is where I am staying. I'm glad to hear from someone who has stayed there. Lorenza and Daniela seem very nice and helpful from my e-mailing with them.

Friends of mine raved about their stay at Arco del Lauro. It's not fancy, but the innkeepers are so helpful. My friends even enjoyed the fact that breakfast was a voucher at a local cafe. They were immersed in local morning life. Once when they were in a morning rush to a museum, they saved their vouchers for later in the day.

MiniVip,
Given the locations of most hotels tourists book - around the popular piazzas, fountains, the Spanish Steps, the Campo dei Fiore -- I don't think Trastavere will present greater noise than most tourists face. |
