A good hotel in Amsterdam?

Can anybody recommend a nice hotel, but not too expensive, in Amsterdam? Just staying one night in late June. Thank you.

You have to say what you mean by "expensive." Nice hotels in Amsterdam are generally pricey (because there's just not a lot of real estate in central Amsterdam). I stayed at the Ambassade, which was very nice, and it was something like 300 dollars.

You should check out Tripadvisor, and if a B&B would suit your needs, they are often far less expensive.

I don't know if it's nice or good :) But, I'm staying at Hotel Aspen. Got the suggestion from (who else) Rick Steve's guidebooks. It's totally inexpensive, only 8 rooms, supposed to be decent sized rooms. You can check it out on Bookings.be I do an alphabetical search. It's listed under H

Contact the Sheraton at the airport. A covered walkway connects the two. It's easy to check in, leave your luggage and take the train from the airport into the city. I don't remember what we paid, but it was not more expensive than some of lesser quality in the city.

My daughter loved the Ambassade and will stay there again this fall.
She also stayed at the Canal House, which is not as expensive as the Ambassade.

We stayed recently at the Hotel Radisson SAS and loved it. A five stars, offers different rates in its own website. It is not a big hotel, rather has the feeling of a boutique hotel. THe facade is that of old houses and has an atrium inside, and inside it a little old house were the charming bar is located. Good service and very friendly staff.

Check www.amsterdam.info and www.bookings.nl for extensive hotel listings and price info. I really liked the Avenue Hotel, a very nice (if somewhat generic) 3-star hotel which is very well priced (110-140 euro a night for a double) for central A'dam. It's on the Niewezijds Voorburgwal, not far from Centraal Station.
I've heard good things about the Rho, the Best Western Eden and the Bellevue in the moderate price category.

We stayed in the Canal House Hotel on the first night of our honeymoon (overnighting before flying out to SA and on to Botswana the next day). I would highly recommend it. Beautiful hotel - gorgeous rooms. I felt like I was sleeping in a museum!
