A George Clooney sighting!

Actually, I'm just HOPING for one when we're in Lake Como next week. Just saw on TV that he's in Venice for the film festival and will be staying at his villa on the lake for a few weeks. Be still my heart!
Meanwhile, my hubby keeps seeking Sophia Loren, and since we'll also be in Switzerland, maybe he can look for her there.
Ah, travel makes for great dreams......

Please let it down gently to hubby that Sophia Loren is in LA at the moment.

BTW, Lake Como is fantastic. Rent a speed boat and let you hair fly.

George Clooney drinks limoncello..

Dreams yes, but I hate to break it to your husband, Hagan, but Sophia Loren (who will always be a great beauty!) is pushing 70. No matter how good she looks on her latest promo photo or tv appearance, 70 is still 70.

The joke at my house is that my husband has a crush on "the young Diana Rigg."

Hagan Sep 3rd, 2003 07:10 PM

Marilyn,
My hubby doesn't care about her age, since he's 61. He's had a crush on her since he was 20!!!!!

lyb Sep 3rd, 2003 07:43 PM

Sophia Loren is 70, oh, my God, let's put her out to pasture! Hey, she is better looking at 70 than many 20 years old!!

Yeah to your husband Hagan for having some class and not going for just the young chickies!

George Cloony has a villa on Lake Como.

Have met Sophis Loren twice. Once in St. Tropez with her kids and once in San Francisco for a big dinner in her honor. Must say, she is just a beautiful woman with a lot of attitude. Not very gracious.

George Clooney was recently directing scenes of a movie at a restaurant near my office. There were more people standing around looking at George than there were film crew working on the movie!

My 54-year-old husband is also in love with Sophia... ever since he rode in an elevator with her in Tokyo many years ago. She was wearing a big terry robe and a towel wrapping her hair. She'd just come from the hotel pool.

>... my husband has a crush on "the young Diana Rigg."<

Is it Diana Rigg (who looks sort of like her) or Mrs Peel (of The Avengers) with whom he is in love?

A friend of mine used to work as a ski instructor at Badrutt's Palace in St.Moritz. He told me recently "Some time ago (don't know if he meant a few months or more than a year), George Clooney drove his flashy car from Milano or Como overnight to St.Moritz and stayed at Badrutts'. There was another guy with him. Julia Robert's ex-husband, actor-country singer, what's his name?

BrimhamRocks Sep 4th, 2003 04:43 AM

Ira,

Diana Rigg was the young actress who played Mrs Peel on the Avengers.

I think at that time, and even now, she and Cat Woman (Eartha Kitt was my fave Cat Woman, but of course, there were others) were considered to be two of the coolest and hottest chicks on television.

Lyle Lovett

Anyone know which town George's villa is near on the lake? I wonder if you can see it from the ferry.

Gino Sep 4th, 2003 06:17 AM

Hagen,
Will Mike Douglas do? He was in Bellagio this past summer while we were there.
If you can't see George Clooney's villa, you can always go the Maysville, Kentucky where he was born.

It's not just Sophia Loren! When we were in Rome last December, I noticed that my own dear husband was carrying on an intense conversation with the desk clerk. Afterwards, the young man beckoned me over and said in a shocked and conspiratorial voice, "Madam, your husband is trying to find Gina Lollobrigida!"

Marilyn Sep 4th, 2003 08:31 AM

ira, it's probably Mrs. Peel. Certainly the Diana Rigg of that era.

Lyle Lovett -- totally cool dude. If you ever have a chance to hear him perform live, do it. His voice is really amazing.

Margaret, that's a riot! I hope you gave him a good tip for watching out for your interests.

LstFltOut Sep 4th, 2003 08:38 AM

Lyle is terrific (Stand By Your Man), as is Leon Redbone!! How is the SFGTG proceeding?

I'm waiting for more response to possible dates from my list of interested parties. I'll make the decision this weekend and post another invitation on fodors with the specific date. Won't you join us? Email me directly!

When I worked at Saks (another lifetime), I once sold towels to Gina Lollobrigida. She couldn't have been nicer.

And to Jane Powell, who was also cordial.

I didn't recognize them at the time, so was not fawning; just knew they looked familiar.

Saw Paul Newman buying slacks, with Joanne looking rather plain, along with him. Also John Travolta. Yoko Ono. Robin Williams was a regular Saks shopper.

Now I'm using my education in a law school library, and the only celebrity we had here was a pre-politician Aaahhhnold, whose nephew went to school here. :-)
