A Funny Little Story

For those who are worried about Anti-Americanism...

Living in Ljubljana, Slovenia gives us the opportunity to shop in Italy quite frequently. Yesterday, we decided a shopping trip was in order. We drove 1 hour west and spent a nice day in Trieste. It was quite the international crowd; 1 American, 1 Israeli and 1 Norwegian. As we were crossing the border on our return, we gave the border guard the passports in the following order; Peacemaker (Norwegian) on top, followed by the troublemakers (Israeli and American!) ;) on the bottom. The guard (on the Italian side) took the passports, his eyebrows just about hit the hairline when he saw the variety, then, when he came to my American passport (last), he did a little dance, singing "Duh, duh, duh, duh, dunh" to the tune of "The Star Spangled Banner"! Quite funny and a huge lift in our already pleasant day!

Cheers!

Sweet!

Reminds me of the time I handed my American passport over to French immigration guys at Eurostar Gare du Nord. Huge line behind me - *long* line, people late for trains, etc.

These 2 guys proceded to compare photo to my face, back & forth, comments in French . . .

'She looks like Meryl Streep." "Yes just a bit.' "No she has more the air of Nicole Kidman" "Oh, you could be right."

Pissed off people in line behind booth.

"Tres gentil messieurs, merci bien . . . est-ce tout?'

"more like Meryl I think - yes that's all" with a wink!!!

For the record I look like neither star *at all* (I wish) but the ego stroke made me sad to leave . . .

How nice. Thanks for sharing that, SloJan.

I think those same two French guys at Gare du Nord must have checked me through a while back. They also thought I looked like Meryl Streep. Trouble is, I'm a 68 year old man.

Frankly, I think anyone who really does look like Meryl Streep wouldn't be wasting her time posting on this board!

Well, JonJon, unless it was 68 year old Wayne!!!

What would she be doing instead JonJon? Gazing into a mirror, or perhaps visiting Trieste?
