A fun link for Paris lovers to take you there...

I don't know if this has been listed here before, but take a look:

http://framboise781.free.fr/Paris.htm

You can use the scroll bar on the bottom to get a 360 degree look.

Flyboy Mar 14th, 2006 02:55 PM

Oh -- and be sure to have your sound on, too. :)

Ignorant question, but is Paris really that bright at night? I've spent a good amount of time in large cities, DC, London, even NYC, but that seems to be astoundingly bright.

Traviata Mar 14th, 2006 03:10 PM

Flyboy,

A friend sent this to me for my birthday a few months ago. What a perfect gift!!.it is one of my favorites...question...I have been trying to identify the musician..would love this CD...any idea????

Flyboy Mar 14th, 2006 03:13 PM

grsing, with the kind of enhancements that are available, it is hard to say if some optical steroids have been added or not. Traviata, I don't know who does the music, but I think I've heard it before; perhaps in a movie soundtrack?

grsing Mar 14th, 2006 03:15 PM

Oh, of course massive things can be done to pictures (can't really be trusted anymore in a lot of cases); just wondering from anyone who had been there.

Traviata Mar 14th, 2006 03:17 PM

Flyboy,

I have listened to several Parisian accordion CDs since receiving this to replicate it and I can't come close...none of them sound quite as rich...maybe someone else can identify it????

cigalechanta Mar 14th, 2006 05:16 PM

yes it has but that doesn't matter, I love his photos and things sink here so fast.
flyboy, here's my favorite, no lights but what a photo for book lovers.

:-B Sous le ciel de Paris
Paroles: Jean Dréjac. Musique: Hubert Giraud 1951
Sung by several French singers like Edith Piaf, Yves Montand, Francis Lemarque. On André Rieux album "croisière romantique" as well.
On the Fnac website you can't listen to Piaf (30sec) and Rieux too.

Sous le ciel de Paris
S'envole une chanson
Hum Hum
Elle est née d'aujourd'hui
Dans le cœur d'un garçon
Sous le ciel de Paris
Marchent des amoureux
Hum Hum
Leur bonheur se construit
Sur un air fait pour eux

Sous le pont de Bercy
Un philosophe assis
Deux musiciens quelques badauds
Puis les gens par milliers
Sous le ciel de Paris
Jusqu'au soir vont chanter
Hum Hum
L'hymne d'un peuple épris
De sa vieille cité

Près de Notre Dame
Parfois couve un drame
Oui mais à Paname
Tout peut s'arranger
Quelques rayons
Du ciel d'été
L'accordéon
D'un marinier
L'espoir fleurit
Au ciel de Paris

Sous le ciel de Paris
Coule un fleuve joyeux
Hum Hum
Il endort dans la nuit
Les clochards et les gueux
Sous le ciel de Paris
Les oiseaux du Bon Dieu
Hum Hum
Viennent du monde entier
Pour bavarder entre eux

Et le ciel de Paris
A son secret pour lui
Depuis vingt siècles il est épris
De notre Ile Saint Louis
Quand elle lui sourit
Il met son habit bleu
Hum Hum
Quand il pleut sur Paris
C'est qu'il est malheureux
Quand il est trop jaloux
De ses millions d'amants
Hum Hum
Il fait gronder sur nous
Son tonnerr' éclatant
Mais le ciel de Paris
N'est pas longtemps cruel
Hum Hum
Pour se fair' pardonner
Il offre un arc en ciel

:-)

coco,

Thank you!! I am trying to add to my french vocabulary and this is a fun way to do so.....what I REALLY want is the name of the CD he is playing..it is a much better quality than most I have... I may try to contact him directly, but, in the meantime, would anyone else know????

cocofromdijon Mar 15th, 2006 03:49 AM

The city is very much as you see it in the photo. Some of the light sources are not as bright in real life, but this is a time exposure. The other parts of the photo reflect the actual perceived brightness, I'd say. However, the real light in the city isn't as yellowish as it appears in the photo.

The sky in Paris is often overcast with low clouds, and the clouds glow with the light from the city below. It can be seen even from 100 km away—very much like Los Angeles.
