a full day round biking trip from Grindelwald to Grindelwald
 

Hello, again

Switching over from hiking in the Axalp area to a full-day biking in the Lauterbrunnental...
Please, give your comments on that route:

1. Taking bikes at bike rental in Grindelwald
2. Train from Grindelwald to get off in Zweilutschinen
3. From Zweil.: biking to Muerren via Isenfluh - Sulsbach - Grutschalp - Winteregg - Allmendhubel (appr. 15,5 km./9,6 miles)
4. Cable car to the Schilthorn (without bikes)
5. Upon return from the Schilthorn, Muerren sightseeing and biking down to Gimmelwald
6. Cable car down to the valley (I guess the place to get off is close to Stechelberg)
7. Biking to Lauterbrunnen with a stop-off at the Truemmelbachfalle
8. Train from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen
9. Wengen sightseeing (with a reasonable stay)
10. Train from Wengen to Wengernalp and then down to Grindelwald via Kleine Scheidegg (with biking from Wengernalp to Kl. Scheidegg).

It is crucial to remember that I am supposed to hand in bikes to the rental before its closing hours, i.e. 6 p.m. Their opening hours is 8 a.m.

As they e-mailed me they neither allow any bike return delays after 6 p.m. nor any early renting before 8 a.m. (say, overnight keeping so that one might set out very early morning).

So, I would appreciate if you could comment on that whether it’s all do-able from 8 a.m. till 6 p.m.

Does anyone know, are there the same regulations at the Interlaken bike rental?

It looks like much more than one can cover in a day. Biking up to Mürren involves a big climb-- more than 800 meters. The trip up the Schilthorn would take more than an hour, by the time you wait for the next car, etc. And you also might have a considerable wait for the train at Wengen.

It might be possible to do steps 1 through7, and catch the train back to Grindelwald from Lauterbrunnen.

I have already taken stock of all pros and cons for 1 to 10 steps in this trip and decided on completing up to the 7th step (maybe the 6th).

May I ask you, whether it is worth going on a bike from Muerren down to Stechelberg (as to experience an extreme descend) or it's better off to use a cable car as to save the time? Also, isn't it better to bike from Muerren to Zweilutschinen?

From Mürren down to Gimmelwald the path is paved and not steep, but you would be using your brakes the whole way! I am afraid I don't know what the path is like between Gimmelwald and Stechelberg. But it would be worthwhile to get to Stechelberg, either biking down or on the cablecar, because then you will have a lovely ride down the valley to Trummelbach Falls and Lauterbrunnen.

If the path along the river is open to bicycles, I'd go that way instead of on the road. But it may be walkers only; I don't know.
