A few photos from Britain

I've posted a few photos from my May-June 2001 trip to the UK (mostly Scotland) online at:

http://pages.prodigy.net/drsawyers

Compliments, donations, and proposals of marriage gratefully accepted; critics need not apply.

Dave

Hi Dave! Great pics. Do you want your page linked to the fodorite website page? To see it go to http://geocities.com/dhfsbf/fodorite/fodor.htm and then click on 'websites'.

Your lighting is almost (pun noted but not intended) picture perfect in each of these shots! Inspiring

As an aside, what sort of camera do you use? Or is this a whole nother thread?

I looked at your pictures and I am curious as to why people need to ask you to get married??

Al,

These were taken with a Kodak DC4800 digital. While it allows quite a bit of manual control, these were all taken with "auto" settings.

I'm especially happy with the indoor shots - I've never been able to take decent pictures in cathedrals, palaces etc with my 35mm point&shoot. (While I take loads of photos, I'm not willing to drag a tripod, light meter, lenses and different types of film around with me on vacation.)

I've printed out quite a few 8x10's, and they're consistently better than previous photos taken with a Nikon NiceTouch 35mm P&S. (As you can tell, I'm in serious danger of becoming an "enthusiast"!)

What a relief! I've never received advance notice of being liked before, and the anticipation was killing me!

Dave,

I see you like castles. I do too!! Especially like your photo of Isle of Skye. Missed that place when I was in Scotland and want to go there.

P.S. You did not appear in any of your photos so how can I propose marriage?

Vickie,

I doubt that posting my visage would INCREASE the likelihood of a proposal. (Besides, it was a new camera, and I wasn't prepared to put it to the potentially destructive self-portrait test.)

I may add a few more Skye photos when I have time. That's one of the few places where I've felt limited by lack of a rental car. Fortunately there is a local bus from Portree to Dunvegan, which gave me a chance to see a bit more of the scenery.

As for castles, I was quite proud of myself for finding Craigmillar. I'd been to E'burgh twice before and didn't even know it existed until learning about Mary Queen of Scot's stay there from a friend.

Cawdor was one of the very few castles or palaces I've visited where the interior was as well-presented as the exterior. When the family is not in residence, tourists are allowed to see much more than at most other sites. Plus, many of the room descriptions were written by the late Earl, who was obviously quite a wit.

Those are digital?! They are by far the best digital photos I've seen yet. I may convert yet...
