I agree WWK, AVA is a dreamy small boutique hotel, I would have included it on my list except I thought Original Poster watching a budget, & it's about 2x the rate of those i named ... I myself stay only 75 yards from AVA , as a dedicated budgeteer at little Hotel Phaedra, Athens' small budget gem. Plain, sparkly-clean, balconies w Acropolis view, rooftop terrace. All these hotels share the same desirable neighborhood -- mainly car-free, quiet at night, convenient to all sites.

travelerjan,
I guess I should have read the OP more carefully! I do love The Plaka for all the reasons listed above. I find it much more convenient than many other neighborhoods in Athens, and perfect for a first time visitor. |
I agree with Plaka too, it is a nice place for tourist, you are close to everything in the centre and it is the vibe of Athens everyday life. Fascinating!

Thank you @travelerjan, @WWK and others for your thoughtful advice! I chose Athens and will be there for 3 nights in May and I am very excited! Will probably stay somewhere in the Plaka, I would imagine.
Thanks again for all who took the time to comment! |
