A few days in Sofia, Bulgaria...any suggestions?
I've just found that I will be going to a meeting in Sofia, Bulgaria the first week of November. With any luck at all I will arrive midafternoon on Saturday November 3. So, I should have Sunday and Monday free before the meetings begin.
It's very little time, and I've never been there, so I may just walk and walk, but at the very least it seems like a visit to Aleksandar Nevski is in order.
We will be at the Holiday Inn Sofia, which is apparently out in a business park kind of area, but has a good shuttle bus that runs to the city center.
I've been looking around on this board, and googling, but thought it was time to post a broad inquiry to my fellow fodorites.
What walks, historic sites, interesting restaurants or shops (textiles of particular interest) have intrigued you?

Just on the off chance that some new eyes are out there, I'm topping this again. I leave this coming Friday, and do have a rough outline, but I'm always interested in hearing what has interested others about a particular place.

Sorry I haven't got any info for you! We were going to go to Sofia in November also then changed our plans.
Found very little info on Sofia. I had the same problem trying to get info on this forum on Vilnius earlier this year,Belgrade last year and Riga the year before. All 3 places were very interesting. It seems our fellow Fodorites stick to mainstream destinations!
Please let us know how you get on in Sofia.Hope you have a good time!

I too tried to find info on Bulgaria on this board but found very little, and posted earlier this year with very few responses. A friend/coworker of mine from Russsia used to visit Bulgaria and loved it, so it intrigued me. Hopefully when you come back you can post about your trip and shed some light on this country!
