A few days in Glasgow, Scotland
 

I visited relatives in Glasgow for a few days in July and managed a bit of sightseeing as well. I visited Glasgow once before and was mainly visiting family this trip, so I wasn't going to see all the tourist sights. I will provide a few of my impressions of what I did manage to see.

The Govan Stones in the Govan Old Church. I took the subway then very short walk to the church where I was given a guided tour with detailed explanation of the stones and their use. Very interesting, especially the Viking stones The Govan Stones :: HOME It would be easy to combine the stones with a visit to the Riverside Museum via the seasonal free ferry.

Tenement House Museum. I followed the directions for the gradual climb to the Museum. It provides a fascinating glimpse into everyday life over many decades. It is small, so does not require much time. Do pay attention to the suggested access routes as some of the streets in the neighborhood are really steep.

House for an Art Lover. As an architecture buff and Art Deco lover, I was in Heaven. I arrived when the house opened, so I had it all to myself for a while. I sat in every room to savor the details and outlasted many other small groups of visitors. The park setting makes this a nice outing to include a walk along the paths, perhaps a picnic or some ski practice. The walk from the subway station along busy streets was OK, but not scenic.

Willow Tea Rooms on Sauchiehall Street had just reopened after renovation and we were invited to look around the premises to take pictures as well as eat in the tea room. We had tea (of course), which included a large tiered selection of sandwiches and sweets. Service was still uneven as staff was in training. An expensive splurge.

Thank for posting. Most of my visits to Glasgow have been similar -- a few highlights laving something for next time. My last visit The House for an Art Lover was closed for a special event :(
