A Eurostar question...does it use up a day...
 

Does it use up a day of your Eurail Selectpass to travel on the Eurostar at passholder rates? Just wondering...

every time you use a train it uses up a day. What do you think - they give you a "free" day simply because it is only a 3 hour trip?

Actually there's no reason to be rude. I put my itinerary into Railsaver.com an the response suggested that I buy a $75 passholder ticket but it did not say that a day of the 8-day Selectpass would be used up. Everywhere else on the itinerary it noted where a day would be used up. I certainly did not think it would be a freebie. Thanks so much for all polite responses.

Further clarification to the last posting: a 3 hour train ride is just that: a 3 hour train ride. You still have the full day until 12 midnight on that same day to continue to use the pass. <BR><BR>And, if you don't write in the day, you do indeed get a &quot;free&quot; day. That happens every so often, depending on the train route and train conductor(s). I have traveled via train several times with an 8 day Eurail flexipass on an 11 or 12 day trip and still had days left over to spare. At the height of the season (summer) it is more likely that it would be checked each and every time you board a train; however, off-season travel is usually better (IMO).

While xxx may have thought he or she had the logical answer it really isn't necessarily correct.<BR><BR>We had Benelux passes for 5 days. When we bought them we got a special passholder rate for Eurostar from Brussels to London. That day was not considered part of our 5 days on the Benelux pass as it was a separately purchased ticket. In fact we had already used up our five days on the pass. But you do still need to have the pass with you, even if used up in case they want to see it, as it was required in order to get the special passholder rate on Eurostar.

The answer was NOT logical nor was it intended to be.Teach did not ask to be slapped.She asked a legitimate question.However I did witness a couple of blokes from Australia bragging that the conductor guy did not check their passes too closely.Having noticed his &quot;laxness&quot; shall we say, he escorted them onto the next arrival platform.Not where the guys wanted to be.Oh well, rudeness has its price.

Now that I think about, I've actually done that twice. Another time we had purchased Swiss passes, and when we ordered them we also got special passholder rates and tickets for the Eurostar from London to Paris, where we were staying for a while before going on to Switzerland. Obviously the day we took the train from London to Paris did not have anything to do with the days on our Swiss Pass. You are only given a special passholder rate because you are buying another pass at the same time. On the other hand, you might want to check to see if you can get an even better rate on the Eurostar if you do use it (assuming it qualifies) as part of your Eurail Selectpass and count it as one of those days.
