A day in Deauville

You all know how boring Paris can get, so I hit the road on Thursday morning to spend a day on the coast of Normandy. Some of you might find me strange, but I waited on purpose for Indian summer to end (which it did with a vengeance) to make sure that I would have the coast to myself, along with the wind and rain.

Well, I was fully served in that department and had a great day. It was chilly, the wind was blowing full blast, but Deauville did have the courtesy to end the rain when I arrived, because it would have been impossible to use an umbrella in the gusts.

Unfortunately, I could not prevent myself from taking a few pictures, which I have strung together in a new report that you can read here: http://tinyurl.com/3mgnvm2

Kerouac, great pics, merci. Glad you won the money to cover your expenses too. Loved the "Victorian" style mansions near the beach.

Thanks, kerouac.

But I am reminded that I like Trouville better.

Fascinating - a very enjoyable trip to Deauville.

I really enjoyed my drive through Deauville and Trouville in late June and would have loved to have had the time to stop and explore further. Crowds and traffic were plenty in evidence then of course

merci beaucoup, Kerouac

Every normal person likes Trouville better, Padraig! ;-)
I do, too, but it isn't as photogenic. The time spent in Trouville the same day, there were even people in the street.

I can remember when the pier leading into the harbour held fishermen putting nets on the sea bed to catch shrimps, I guess all gone now.

Thanks, Kerouac. We were in Deauville several years ago. It was fun going back with you!

As usual a very enjoyable report. I was reading an article in the NYT online today and there was an article titled "Lost in Paris" that spoke of an area that you did a report on last year, the 13th and the Bibliotecque. We went to that area because of your report and throughly enjoyed just walking around. The NYT has nothing on your reports, however. Here is a link if anyone is interested. http://travel.nytimes.com/2011/10/09...gewanted=1&hpw

My recent tour of France skipped Deauville because of the G8 Summit at that time so your photos more than make up for it. Thanks.
