A day in Amsterdam, in July, what should they do?

A day in Amsterdam would be spent:
1. Picking up any bike in a bike rack and taking it for a ride?
2. Walking through the red light district
3. Going to the Picasso Museum
4. Going to the Tulip Fields
What would you do?
Your comments are welcome and appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi db,

Is there a reason for being in Amsterdam for only one day?

Tulips will be 'over' by Mid June. You could take a bike tour if the weather is nice. Otherwise, take in the Anne Frank Museum and Rjiksmuseum and Picasso if time permits.

donnae_b,

I'll second cmeyer54's suggestion of the Anne Frank house & also recommend a boat tour of the canals.

Another vote for Anne Frank House. That was an experience I'll never forget. I am also a Van Gogh fan so I recommend that museum. At night take a canal ride.

The Dutch Resistance Museum was very informative. If you're curious about the interior of those beautiful 17th- and 18th-century canal houses, you could visit either the Museum Van Loon or the Museum Willet-Holthuysen. And definitely try some of their great fries and mayonnaise! The mayonnaise is available in several flavors; one of my favorites was the one made with green peppercorns.

Ira,
One full day in night in Amsterdam is better than none at all.

Thank you all for your ideas.

Sincerely,
Donnae

1. *NO* if you want to take a bike ride I highly recommend you go on a tour outside the city. Riding a bike in Amsterdam is not for rookies. You'll understand what I mean when you see the literally thousands of bikes lining the streets. Unless you can ride safely, hold an umbrella, talk on your cellphone, while smoking a cigarette, in high heels... than you are not ready for biking in Amsterdam!

2. YES, but that only takes an hour or so. Stop by one of the erotic museums while you're in the neighborhood.

3. MAYBE or one of the other museums

4. NO for reasons mentioned above

Personally, I would take a canal boat ride & go to Vondelpark for a picnic then in the evening somewhere in the Leidseplein for dinner and maybe a show.

<One full day in night in Amsterdam is better than none at all.> Actually I don't agree plus A'dam is not one of my favorite cities, but that is neither here nor there I guess.
