I think we must go back to Soglio and Waldhaus. I have the feeling if we don't, I will be very, very, unhappy!

Sorry to be so late getting back to all of you, my workload is insane at this time of year. I have been checking out some of the towns, mountain passes, and suggestions above as I have time.

Scandanavia and the Baltic countries would take me more time to research than I have right now so I think they will have to wait.

So, don't know the rest of the trip yet, but Soglio and Sils are a definite!

Thanks, and keep the ideas coming!

Does anyone think there is any difference in flying into either Zurich or Munich? I realize Munich is further away, I was just curious as to traffic congestion headed out of the cities for August vacations.

"Live Trip Report from the Dolmites" mentioned a lot of traffic headed from Munich to the Dolomites, but I think that may have been on a Saturday. We would plan to arrive Zurich or Munich on a Wednesday or Thursday morning.

hi wrenwood,

I was going to suggest Iceland until you mentioned good food! lol - it's got everything else you want and I suspect that it's a lot cheaper than when we went 2 summers ago. [great timing!]

but unless you go for oxtail soup and roast guillimot, it may not be for you.

CANADA oh CANADA
Try Lake Louise area. Mountain scenery equal to Switzerland, plus there is wildlife.

Okay, going to start a new thread. We'll have 8-11 days (depending upon if you ask me or my husband!) and we will basically be spending it in the Engadine. Waldhaus in Sils, Soglio, Fex Valley and wherever else all of you will be recommending.

Loved all the suggestions ~ Ignutah, we have been to Jasper and Banff, Lake Louise, British Columbia (LOVED Takkakaw Falls, Kicking Horse Pass) Waterton Glacier ~all amazing. Have been thinking of those areas (and Alaska) but for some reason Switzerland just won't get out of my mind (and my heart) I'm afraid Norway will have to wait until we have more time to plan and research.

Ann.......no, no, no, definitely not Iceland this year..........I have heard some rumors of volcanoes...

So, I will have a ton of questions for you on easy hikes/walks, restaurants, side trips, etc, please check out my next thread.

Once again, it just amazes the knowledge and helpfulness of the people on these Forums. Several friends and relatives have asked me how I was able to plan our wonderful trips. All of you have made it possible. Thanks again and again.

really? gosh. Who knew? Ironically, flights from Iceland were barely affected as the ash was blowing away from the area where the main airport is situated. so far as I can tell, apart from the immediate area of the island, life went on much as usual.
