A Castle in Scotland - for a night

Hi.

Happy New Year to everyone!

I’m hopefully headed to Scotland soon for a two-week jaunt and I desperately want to stay in a castle for at least one night. If it could be in Inverness or somewhere up that way (in the north), it’d be great.

Anyone have any suggestions, warnings, etc.??

Sheila….anything?

Thanks in advance.
J~

Have a look at http://www.celticcastles.com/map_sco...?view_type=All
and http://www.historic-uk.com/StayUK/Sc...tles/index.htm
you will see that they have a few which could interest you.
Some of the premises are more country mansions than I would term fortified castles and for that reason you may wish to check them out by doing a specific web search.

I plan to be in Scotland in June. If you are planning to stay in a castle, send me a mail so we can discuss details. Jaden? HF?

I think budget would help. You have Tulloch castle at Dingwall, Castle Stuart at Ardersier and Inverlochy Castle at Fort William. Each is totally different. What exactly are you looking for?

I know someone who stayed here (as Shelia mentioned): http://www.inverlochycastlehotel.com/

We stayed at Kildrummy in 2001 and loved it. Our room looked over the old castle ruins, which was quite interesting. The hotel itself was very nice, and we were glad we took the side trip to stay there.

Hi, Jaden. Would you mind if I jump in and ask a question of my own. I still can't "Post A New Message" in Fodor's and I'm getting ready for a trip to Scotland in September.

Can someone tell me how far The Glasgow Queen Street train station is from Glasgow Central train station? Scot Rail says you go by foot from one to the other, but they don't say how long it takes or how to get there.

Again, thanks Jaden for letting me use your post.

Dallas, ten to fifteen minute walk between the rail stations depending on the weight etc of your luggage. A five minute taxi ride if you can get one at Queen St.

Chopstick thanks for the mention. The websites can be very useful but you have to check them out to confirm that the castles meet your expectations.

Dallas - I'm curious - how is it possible you can post TO a thread but can't start a thread of your own??

sheila Jun 7th, 2007 01:14 AM

The answer janis, is on the thread addressed to the Editors. There's a problem with framing which is damaging the ability to post at teh top of the screen. I'm OK on this laptop, but can't Search or Post a New Message on the desktop at home.

oh - that IS weird. I knew some were having a "glitch" but didn't realize it meant not being able to post thredas . . . .

janisj Jun 7th, 2007 03:58 AM

or threads . . . .

Ani Jun 7th, 2007 05:16 AM

We didnt get to stay in a castle while there but my Dad stayed in Castle Stuart and claims it is thoroughly haunted. He had some crazy stories!

Ani Jun 7th, 2007 05:17 AM

Just saw this was posted quite some time ago...where did you end up staying?
