A base for 5 days in Western Denmark

My wife and I will be arriving in Copenhagen at the end of July this year and will have 5 days to fill in before returning to Copenhagen for 3 days and then moving on to Sweden.

We would like to pick up a car at Copenhagen Airport and then stay somewhere in Western Denmark from where we can branch out on day trips to see the surrounding countryside or just relax for a day or so and enjoy where we are based.

Can anyone suggest a suitable (preferably smallish) town conveniently located for this, please?

Rob.

Before you rush off to the far West you might to look at Roskilde (biggish), Odense (biggish) but well positioned or my favorite Rudkoping (pretty small)

Arhus makes a splendid base for western Denmark IMO. Stop at Roskilde on the way west.

Arhus is ok, I've stayed 4 days or so and found it just a bit big, if you are renting a car you might stay down on the beach front for example to make it less like a city. From an explore Jutland point of view it is perfect, but don't forget all the other islands, the smaller ones are more magical to me.

Thanks for your help.

We have decided to base ourselves just out of Arhus. The smaller islands look very nice for a longer stay, bilboburgler, but we simply won't have enough time on this trip.

Rob.
