!

Need to get party of three from Blackfriars to Heathrow on a Thursday morning for a 10:30 AM departure. Each with a checked bag plus carry on. Can do this via tube on District Line to Gloucester Road, change there to Picadilly Line to LHR T4 but am not familiar with the connection. Any fellow Fodorites familiar with this connection in terms of navigating stairs, etc. with luggage? For three of us might it be about the same cost for a car service?
Thanks!

Don't know about Gloucester Rd, but you can also change at Earl's Court which has elevators.

W/ that much luggage the tube can be a pain. If they can each handle it easily - fine. But w/ 2 suitcases each plus handbags - the tube will require a LOT of walking.

A car service like Justairports will run approx £35-ish door to door. Unless the checked bags are really large - then you'd need an estate car and it would be around £40-£45.

That is so expensive when you have to double the price for a dollar amount. Not questioning if that is the price or not. Just saying that it is expensive nonetheless.

3 passengers on tube and/or train is 3 fares the car is a bargain.

MademoiselleFifi Jun 21st, 2008 02:41 AM

3 fares is only 6 pounds.

janisj - thanks for the adulation, but I have no idea why the title I entered did not show up on the post. This never happened to me before - wonder if there has been some software change (or maybe it was the nice Bordeaux I was drinking while typing)

At any rate, thanks for the helpful responses.

If you do want to do it by tube, you can make an easier change by getting a District Line train going to Ealing or Richmond and changing at Hammersmith to the Piccadilly (just walk across the platform). Allow an hour from the time you get to Blackfriars.

The Just Airports site quote for an estate (station wagon) from Blackfriars to LHR is £35 (cash price). Using a credit card would cost more).

For the record, the fare for a single ticket on the Tube from central London to LHR is £4. As PatrickLondon says, the easiest change is at Hammersmith.
