$946.00

I bit the bullet and went ahead and booked our flight. It is $252.00 more expensive than the same flight in 2003. Into Amsterdam and out of Rome from Seattle. Im was able to get the non stop Seattle-Amsterdam flight both ways. :)
Is anyone else on the fence waiting for prices to come down? With gas $3.00 a gallon and going up I thought I better book the flight....

Don't second guess and don't look back. Enjoy that trip!

Hi Janda, every expert seems to say if you find an airfare that is affordable for you the traveller "grab it" as the consensus is that airfares are not going to be going down. Your airfare looks good to me..I always end up paying that much (from SFO to Italy).

pdx Apr 22nd, 2006 11:16 AM

I agree with all the above. I don't think you can count on under $900 during the spring/summer months and the anxiety isn't worth it. That's how much it costs to travel right now so hold your head up and be glad you didn't have to pay $1200. And now you get to focus on parts of the trip other than airfare.

Or you could wait and take you chances.
I managed to get Munich-Cancun-Munich twice last year for 99€ roundtrip, but it wasn't peak season.

How about Frankfurt-Sri Lanka-Frankfurt for 157€ the day after tomorrow :-) or maybe the Maledives at the same rate...
However no one can guarantee that these kind if offers will be available in Sept. But during peak season? I don't think so. FRA-Fort Myers-FRA was 199€ in January, so why does it always have to be peak season?

Yea I will enjoy planning the rest .. So far we have a houseboat in Amsterdam and an apartment rented in Venice.
Now to find apartments in Rome, Sorrento and Rio Maggiore....

I think you did pretty good at that price - its better than what I got going to Zurich from Chicago and you are travelling farther. I wouldn't lament it at all and I personally think gas prices are going to keep the airfares high for quite some time. Have fun.

That's a great price flying open jaw from 2 separate countries! Enjoy your trip! :)

adamriemer Apr 23rd, 2006 05:48 AM

I booked my flight from Detroit to Amsterdam on May 4 and flying out of Rome (1 stop in AMS) to detroit May 19 for $732. Northwest also let me trade in 10,000 frequent flier miles and reduced my plane ticket to $530.00. Not bad huh

pdx Apr 23rd, 2006 09:23 AM

Braggart!
Can you get one of those for me?

logos999 Apr 23rd, 2006 11:24 AM

pdx, you can get todays special
Frankfurt - Mombasa (Kenya) - Frankfurt, 3 weeks for 108€
http://www.ltur.com/de/detail.ltml?s...=1&saslm=Z
Now you only have to be in Frankfurt by Monday evening... And you can buy right now by credit card.

Great price Adam! I've taken advantage those miles plus dollars deals before but the only drawback is that you cannot accrue miles for the trip. I'm still watching for my late Aug/early Sept trip and not having good luck yet.

adamriemer Apr 23rd, 2006 03:36 PM

True, you dont get your miles, but its all about timing. Taking that $200 I saved anf using it toward my trip is more valuable to me for my upcomming trip being that im strapped for cash

kswl Apr 23rd, 2006 03:49 PM

Right now I wouldn't blink at that fare, and I am the cheapest person on the planet (see archives for threads on tipping tour guides).

I have just come back from 8 days in Orlando Florida and am fed up with theme parks, miniature golf, outlet malls and incredibly fat people in bathing suit tops in restaurants.

I need to go to Europe, quick--and $946 sounds GOOD!

I booked July travel from washington, DC to Frankfurt for $715.00 during a 2 day sale on United. The sales are out there .. they just come and go very quickly.

A couple weeks ago I got Minneapolis to Dusseldorf roundtrip for a price including taxes of $635. Travelling end of June into mid July. I think being flexible helps. We just needed to get to the continent and then are arranging the rest or the trip from there. Otherwise, I never would have thought of Dusseldorf. I too looked and looked for a decent price for quite some time.
