9 Nights in Croatia Where Would You Go??
Hi,
Please advise I am having difficulty figuring out where to spend 9 nights in Croatia in August. Would you apend 4 in Split with day trips to islands and 5 nights in Dubrovnik with day trips - or squeeze in a third place such as Hvar or Korcula?? Please help! |
Definitely stay on an island--that is the main draw! You also probably want to minimize your time in Split and Dubrovnik in high season.
Focus your research on the smaller towns of Hvar and Korcula--they are the island on the ferry route. I say the smaller towns because you do not want to stay in Hvar Grad or Korcula town in high season. And if you mean next month you should start looking for accomodations immediately. An alternative would be to stay somewhere along the coast--Makarska riviera or Peljesac peninsula. Day trip options are limited due to ferry schedules and transport time. |
I agree that it would be better to spend less than 4 days in Split and that going to an island would be nice. Split itself has a lot of shops (closed Saturday afternoon and Sunday) and you can walk up and down the main drag. The restaurants are basic and unless there is somewhere else you have in mind, it's nice to go to the islands. Are you planning to have a car and what kinds of activities do you like to do?

When we visited Croatia in May 07 we spent 8 nights as follows:
2 nights in Trogir (with daytrips to Split and Krka National Park) 2 nights in Hvar (with small islands hopping on a motor boat) 4 nights in Dubrovnik (with daytrips to Montenegro, Elafiti Islands and Lokrum) If I had an extra day I would have spent it in Hvar or visited Korsula. I wouldn't spend more than a day in Split though. |
Hi
How come no one mentioned Istria. Rovinj, Porec. I spent almost 2 wks there several yrs. ago and 2 nights in Trogir. We drove back to the calm of Istria and the great seafood, and towns. |
Another vote for Istria. We found it to be our favourite area in all of Croatia (although we also fell in love with Dubrovnik and a few islands). It has beauty, culture, great food, history, scenery, hilltowns, etc. Just fantastic!
