great-we've never been to rome so I feel a little silly skipping it entirely, but one night wouldn't give us much anyway.

I'd suggest a stop at Orvieto for lunch your first day. You'll appreciate the break in the drive, and Orvieto is a beautiful town. You might even consider spending your first night in Orvieto. Would mean an hour less driving that first day, and you'd have more time to see the town.

Hi honey,
Here's another idea based on what you've said you like to do. DAy 1 - arive in Rome. stay 2 nights. [anything less than that and you'll feel frustrated]. Day 3 - train to orvieto. pick up car. Drive to Bevagna. stay 4 nights. Day 7 - drive to Florence. return car. stay there for rest of holiday. OR Day 7 - drive to sienna, stay there for rest of holiday, do day trip to florence. regards, ann |
