9 days in Spain in Feb

We are planning a 9 day trip later this month to Spain. Current plan is as follows:
Segovia/Avila - 2 nights
Granada - 2 or 3 nights
Ronda - 2 nights (day trip to Morocco)
Cordoba - 2 nights
Any thoughts about this plan? Should we skip Cordoba and do Sevilla instead? Should we skip Ronda and stay in some other town around there?
Would also appreciate any suggestions for hotels. Right now we are thinking of staying at the Paradors in these cities but would love to hear of other options.
Spent two weeks in Spain last summer and enjoyed it. Your plan is pretty good---Segovia and Avila can be seen in a day each. 2 nights is enough in Granada. Ronda is interesting and can be seen in less than a day, but in addition to Morocco, Gibraltar makes an interesting day trip.Cordoba is also very nice but you probably could spend more time in Sevilla since there is more to see there. I notice you're not including Madrid. Perhaps you don't want the "big" city. However, if you're flying into or out of Madrid I would try to make a little time for Toledo.

I am sending you some notes by e-mail.
I agree with Garry about Toledo - to the extent that if you only do one trip from Madrid, make it Toledo - But it would be a sin to miss Ronda.

Barun, your itinerary is a bit confusing to me. Are you arriving in Madrid and leaving for Segovia immediately? Segovia is north of Madrid, Avila to the east, where are you spending the night(s)? From where to Granada? Why skip Madrid and Seville? Also, I am not sure why you would skip Seville and do a day trip to Morocco (Tangier?). Day trips to Morocco from Ronda are not a good idea. Ronda is in the mountains and the ferry (ferries) usually leave early in the AM with all the associated check-in for passports, etc., which leads me to the other comment regarding security. I am not sure it would be worth your while to go to Morocco for a day these days. Let's not even get into Tangier (if that is in fact where you're going?) as a destination, but the security in/out of Morocco on to Spain is tight, tight these.

With nine days in Feb, I would go south. Toledo, Seville, Malaga, (day trip Cordova from Seville; day trip Granada and Ronda from Malaga). Rent a car and do day trips to other enchanting white villages.

Spain is a beautiful, amazing, inexpensive destination. I am willing to bet you'll return for more. Segivia, Barcelona, they will all still be there

You might want to have a look at www.i-escape.com. We made a few trips to Southern spain last year to check out small hotels with character in the area. You can see our detailed reviews and pics of our favourites as well as tips on best things to do etc.

Maira,

No problem about Avila being West instead of East. Our plan is to fly into Madrid, rent a car and drive to Segovia. Spend 2 nights there (with really only 1 to 1.5 days for sightseeing) and then drive to Granada. From there we wanted to drive a little further south and make a base somewhere from where we could do a day trip to Morocco as well as some other local sights. Our thought was to make Ronda the base. Do you have any other suggestions for a base in that part of Spain? Also hotel (or places to stay) suggestions are most welcome.

I would use Seville and Malaga as bases for a first-time visitor to Andalucia. Also, allow some flexibility for unavoidable delays if driving such distances (Segovia-Granada). Again, with nine days, you want to minimize transportation time. I would focus on two home bases max and plan around those, including researching the most efficient mode of transport between cities. If you must go to Segovia/Avila on this trip, I would head out to Avila from airport, sightsee, head out to Segovia, overnight (2), on to Seville, day trips to Ronda and Cordova. Spend the balance on Malaga from where to day trip to Granada and Tangier (if you must....). I would drop the car at the Malaga Airport and fly-connect from Malaga on to Madrid-Barajas. As far as hotels, I recommend the Apart-Hotel Costa Lago, this was on Torremolinos actually, next to the ocean and sort of apartment set-up. In Seville, we stayed at a hotel across from the site of the 1992 World Fair, which was the center of that trip. Not really recommend for a first-timein Seville. There are many recs on thsi forum for Sevilla and Malaha hotels. Have a great time planning!
