9 day Trip to Scotland
 

Hi There,

We are travelling to Scotland during September for almost 9 days . We are a couple in mid 30's and enjoy nature, adventure & nightlife. We are not interested in museums or any historic sites. Below is the plan that we came up with.

Day 1 – Land in Glasgow in AM, Stay Overnight
AM - Visit Glasgow West end and Byers road (Cab)
PM – Nightlife ( Cab)
Day 2 - Spend Day in Glasgow, Stay overnight
AM – Visit Loch Lomond (Cab)
PM - Nightlife ( Cab)
Day 3 - Train from Glasgow Queens Station to Fort William, Jacobite Train round Trip, Overnight in Fort Williams
Day 4 - Drive from Fort Williams to Nevis Range Mountain Resort, Drive to from Nevis Range to Lochness and Caledonian Canal, Overnight in Fort William
Day 5 - Day trip to Aviemore - Loch of Eilein and Funicular Railway, Overnight in Fort William.
Day 6 - Drive from Fort William to Portree, Isle of Skye via Kyle of Lochalsh (3.5 hours), Overnight in Portree
Day 7 - Drive Old Mon of Storr, Kilk Rock and Fairy Glen, Dunvegan Castle ,Overnight in Portree
Day 8 - Drive to SkyGuides, Fairy Pools and Oyster Shed, Overnight in Portree
Day 9 - Drive from Portree to Fort William via Armadale Ferry (4 hours) . Depart at 11:30 AM , Drop the car, and Take the train to Glasgow ( Train at 2:58 PM reaching Glasgow at 6:15) ) , Dinner at Glasgow
Day 10 - Flight back from Glasgow to United States in AM

We have already made the bookings for Stay, Train and Rental car.
Does the Funicular let you exit at the top in September? I would really appreciate if you can provide some inputs on the places we are visiting from different cities in the plan above. Please let me know if the plan we devised is doable

Since you have already booked everything there really isn't that much we can help you with.

But IMO/IME I wouldn't spend one night in Ft William, let alone three nights.

Re the Funicular (assuming you mean the Gondola) yes you can get off -- However it is ENTIRELY weather dependent, and there is no guarantee you will be able to go up or see anything if you do.

Don't miss Edinburgh (unless you have been there before!)

I would book a Rabbies Tour to Loch Lomond rather than take a cab. I think it will be much less expensive and you get commentary with the tour.

They don't care about history (which is a bit ridiculous, but their choice) and Edinburgh is filled with it.

Can you help us with some other ideas to spend next day in Glassgow?

We've not been there, but are going in a couple of weeks. After extensive study of travel guides:

We plan to visit the Riverside Museum, which is supposed to have very interesting exhibits of transportation, etc. You may see this on the West End tour, however.

We also plan to visit Glasgow Cathedral and the Tenement House near it.

We're also going to take a train to Edinburgh for one day. We were there a few years ago, but there are some things that we would like to see, or resee.

Both are well worth visiting but aren't at all near each other

Thanks Janis-- I was thinking of Provand's Lordship, which is near the Cathedral. We want to see both, if we have time.

PreetK - take a look at my tripreport. In my view you should not miss the Quairaing on Skye. Its not far from the Fairy Glen. Dunvegan on the other hand is out of the way. Also I was not entirely impressed with the Fairy Pools...maybe its better if you get there early in the morning and avoid the crowds. Also if in the area keep going towards Glenbritte and the black sand beach - its stunning.

Per the weather there, we are planning to pack some full sleeve T-shirts, couple of fleeces and a warm jacket.

As long as you can layer/un-layer things that will be fine. I'd also take a waterproof of some sort. Maybe that is what you meant by jacket - but if not, take a rain jacket or poncho. Sturdy shoes with good treads and warm socks.
