For what it's worth, I completely agree with threegigs. I always book at least 5 or 6 hour layovers. Missing an international connection and all that it means (hotel rental, car rental, train tickets, etc.) is just not something I want to do.

I have heard too many sob stories about missed connections to take the chance -- just to save a few hours (well, maybe a little more!) at the airport. We do the Cibo thing at Philly too! It's not that bad.

gt a call 2 days ago that our retunr flight from Aruba was cancelled. They gave us the last seats on another fligth late that day. They also changed our outgoing flifght numbers and times. We had to reschedule that as well and they charged me $65 per perosn to do all of these changes (Delta)This is why a passengers bill of rights is needed.

We once had a 5 hour layover at JFK. Wanted to go out but JFK has closed their luggage room and there was nowhere for us to leave luggage. Make certain that Detroit has also not done this in the name of "security"

If not a Crown Room (Delta) or such, and you have a long, long wait, you can get the Crown Room for $25 for a one time use....

I will probably be doing that on my upcoming trip...the airlines are a real mess!!!

I actually have something good to say about NWA. A few years ago we booked a flight from St. Louis to Nuremburg on NWA about 7 months before the trip. Well, about a month before departure I found out that I flight had changed and we were to have two long layovers in the US (one in Detroit, another in Memphis). I called and they changed my flight right away. The person I talked to couldn't have been nicer.

Just call and explain your situation. Maybe they will change it. And if not, I agree with the others. I have missed enough flights, and have ran through enough airports trying to make my connection, that I would welcome a 9 hour layover over a 1-2 hour one any day.

Good luck and best wishes,
Tracy
