$880 SCRATCHED BUMPER
 

HAVING PARKED IN A GARAGE IN FLORENCE OVERNIGHT(27e)WE DISCOVERED FOUR HOURS AND 100k's LATER OUR BUMPER WAS SCRATCHED ON THE CORNOR.ARGUE W/ THE PROPRIETOR -GOOD LUCK.HONEST W/ HERTZ AT MALPENSA-$880.WE PAYED W/OUR PLATINUM VISA AND PAYED FOR ALL THE OTHER INSURANCE.WE WERE CHARGED IMMEDIATLY ON THE VISA WHICH I QUICKLY DISPUTED W/THE VISA PEOPLE.NO PAPERWORK YET(2 WEEKS).ANY IDEAS?

I thought that CDW insurance was compulsory in Italy and thus, insurance is included in the quote. Does the $880 includes rental fees?

Sometimes in the fine print there is a deductible or non waivable exess even when the CDW is purchased.
This is why there is such a thing as Super CDW. And this is why you always have to ask if there is any excess that is my responsibility.
Buying the rental company insurance does not automatically mean you do not have ANY financial responsibility for damage to the car.
I do not know if this is the case here. I just offer one possible explanation.

If the car had a damaged bumber when you returned it, Hertz has every right to charge and they will charge according to a rate book. If the repair is less you will receive a refund from Hertz.

You then claim from your credit card after providing all the required paper work that Visa requires.

I had an accident in March in the UK. Hertz charged me $939 when I returned the car on March 20, I returned home on March 27 and began the process of collecting the insurance from VISA. I received a check from Hertz for $381 on April 10 and the balance from VISA on May 5.

Hertz and VISA were very helpful in telling me what was necessary and very prompt in providing the documents needed. The service from both was exemplary.

I can't help but wonder if Hertz would have refunded the difference if you didn't have VISA assisting you and acting as your advocate.

The refund from Hertz was made as soon as the damage was repaired and the actual costs were determined. They were obviously less than the estimate made when the car was returned. Visa was not acting as advocate.

In any case, the insurance thru Visa would have covered any of my actual costs.

I repeat, the service from both was exemplary.

First of all, writing in ALL CAPS is considered shouting on the internet. Please refrain from doing so in the future unless you are sight-impaired and need the all caps.
Second, I've never rented from Hertz, but I have rented a car in Italy several times using a GOLD visa, and on two occasions had some slight damage that never appeared on my credit card because I paid for (or was covered for) the CDW.
I would certainly dispute the matter, because if you paid for all the various insurances that are required for Italy, you should be covered.
I have had instances in the past where I was charged for damages and then credited for them after the fact, when the facts were straightened out - but I had witnesses and police reports and such to prove it. Good luck to you.
