84-mile Trek in Great Brittain
 

I'm planning a 84-mile Trek in Great Britain along Hadrian's Wall & just wanted to know 'which' travel company in Great Britain can help me in my plans for this particular trek in making some suggestions and possible travel arrangements. It would be helpful to discover others who have made this trek as well & receive suggestions from them. I appreciate any help. Lots of companies that will organise accommodation bookings, luggage transfer and guidebooks, and AFAIK they're all much of a muchness. I used Contours, but I met people who'd booked through Mickeldore and they seemed happy with them. No doubt other companies have their fans as well.

Be aware that not much remains of the actual wall at each end, and you can get a good sense of the best of it along the central section that you can comfortably walk in 3-4 days, and still spend plenty of time at Housesteads and Vindolanda.

If you do a google search there are many companies who can organise this for you, but it's easy enough to do yourself.

I walked it in 5 stages - best if you do it from west to east as the prevailing wind is in your back. Be prepared for all sorts of weather even in high summer - it can be exposed in places.

So either start from Bowness-on-Solway or Wallsend, both accessible by public transport. The above website gives you addresses of b&b's and buses, there's a great little bus (AD122) that follows the route of the Wall.

The middle section is where most of Wall remains. You'll pass by churches, castles and farmhouse - often built with the Wall's stones - makes you think.

smharris, my brother-in-law walked Hadrian's Wall a couple of years ago. His tour was organized by Andante Travels, who specialize in archeological tours. He was more than happy with the walk, especially given his interest in Roman history. Here's the link:

I have twice travelled with Andante, once in Turkey and once in Jordan. They are well organized, reliable, and easy to deal with. If you are looking for a tour with a significant academic component, they are excellent. If you are more interested in simply walking the wall with minimal interpretation, there may be other firms that handle that well.

Excellent everyone! You all have been exceptionally helpful. This definitely was what I was looking for? Any suggestions on most 'ideal' time to walk this trail? I know the weather can change but just curious of your suggestions?

Best time to walk? hmm... probably June

Accommodation will be more easily available than July and August, and you'll have long light evenings. September can be a good month as well. As for the weather who knows, could be great could be awful whenever you go.

While I've found in general I prefer to just plan my own walks and don't need the luggage service, I did use Contours once and found them to be reasonably priced and happy to plan the walk around my capabilities. They do list Hadrian's Wall on their website:
