8 nights in Austria and Amsterdam should I be clubbing these 2 places?

Hi!

So I will be travelling with my partner in August to Europe. My partner wish to see Amsterdam and I am more of a nature lover, so I thought of clubbing Austria with Amsterdam.so my agent has given me a rough idea of what my itinerary would look like.
Following is the one he has suggested.

"2 nts Vienna,3 nts Salzburg,2 nts Amsterdam in 3/4 star hotels with breakfast.

New Delhi Vienna-AMsterdam-new Delhi flights on Air France

Salzburg -LAkes and Mountains tour(St Gilgen and Wolfsgang)
BAd ISchl and Halstatt Coach tour

Canal cruise Hop on hop off pass-1 day in AMsterdam."

My question is should I be clubbing these 2 places in a trip or I should look something else with Amsterdam or May be something else with Austria. I Have been to France, Spain, Switzerland in my previous trips. Also I have only 8 nights(stay in Europe) and my budget is not much. It is around 1400 euros per pax that includes flight and accommodation, so i am thinking of cutting down on cost by putting up in a nice clean comfy hostel ..Any suggestions on that. I am not a self drive kind of a person.
Please suggest if I should go with this itinerary.

1400€ for flights and a week accommodation seems to be not enough if you want 3/4 star accommodations. Does that include food as well?

I suggest flying into AMS and out of VIE so you can avoid needless backtracking. Looking at DEl-AMS-VIE-DEl flights, KLM has flights around 600€.

Train from Amsterdam to Salzburg is between 50-100€ per ticket and will take between 9.5-12 hours so you are basically spending a day getting from Amsterdam to Salzburg.

You mention you are a nature lover. Did you want to see mountains? Or was there something else that you wanted to lock in on?

I should also mention that August is Summer break for schools in most, if not all, of Germany and that does affect pricing and availability.

Yep I love landscapes, mountains, lakes, waterfalls and yea such kind of things. My partner loves both nature and cities both.

So in Amsterdam if we have to book clean, comfortable hostels, what options do I have?

Sparkchaser I would look into the flight route u have mentioned.

Also if I increase my budget by 200 euros can I add one more night to Amsterdam. I would like to do a day trip to any nearby place

No it doesn't include any meals

You have picked two very expensive destinations and you have a severely limited budget. There is gorgeous nature all over Europe. Why don't you had to Central of Eastern Europe where your money will go a LOT farther?

StCirq Thanks for the valuable feedback, so now we have also thought of ditching Amsterdam for now and instead thinking of doing
2 nights Prague- 2 nights Budapest - 1 or 2 nights Vienna- 3 nights Salzburg...

Rasika17 Jun 10th, 2016 06:33 AM

Hello everyone..So I have finalised my flights. I will be reaching Prague on 11 th Aug around 2pm I m there for 3 nights then I will be travelling to Vienna and would stay there fr a night and next morning will be leaving for Salzburg and then gonna be there for 3 nights and then on 18th morning we will leave for Budapest by train and then have our flight back to India on 20th Aug 4PM.

So I have few questions, would be really grateful if you could help me out here
1. In Salzburg, I want to do these day trips-
- St. Gilgen and lake cruise to St wolfgang and Cogwheel up to SchafergBahn from wolfgang.
- Ice caves in Werfen
- Salzkammergut- Salt mine tour
Bad Ischl and Hallstatt
- Unterwossen- lake walchensee
- Linderhof Castle

I know 3 nights is less for these but is it anyhow possible if I can do them all..?
As of now I have not booked accommodation and also the train tickets between the countries. Should I give Vienna a miss and add a night to Salzburg?

Question 2- Should I buy a hop on hop off pass for Budapest, I have heard the service is not good. Also how else can I move around the city?

Question 3- Should I buy 2 day travel pass for Prague along with Petrin hill visit?

I wouldn't have added another day to Salzburg but you have a lot of things you want to do there that I never would have thought of, so in your case, I think you probably should as one day in Vienna isn't probably going to be that enjoyable for you in comparsion to the time/trouble it adds to your trip to go there and check in/out of a hotel for one day. Actually, you might add it to Prague instead if you are already there 3 days.

I don't know what you are calling a 2 day travel pass for Prague, never heard of that term and I've been there several times. There is the Prague Card that includes public transport and free entry to some attractions. It might be convenient, of course, versus buying stuff separately. It's 46 euro for two days. I can't imagine how you could spend that much money separately--23 euro a day. YOu can buy an all day transport pass for only 100 CZK, for example (3.7 euro) and most attractions are reasonable in price. I think the Castle complex is the most expensive and may be the equivalent of about 12 euro. The Petrin view tower costs 120 CZK or about 4.4 euro. SO the card may make it more convenient if you want that, but don't do it as a way to save money.
