8 nights based in lisboa
 

well i've gotten a nice apartment in a garden near the fundicao gulbenkian and sao sebastiano metro and now looking for suggestions of what to try and see and experience in lisboa and nearby places day trip able

i enjoy museums , places, gardens and cafe sitting crowd watching.

plan to travel l to sintra for a day and it sounds as if a day in belem tops lots of lists

i'm an experienced single traveler and not shy of multople change transit routes

Sinatra is wonderful. Quinta de Regaleira was really beautiful...the initiation well was incredible. Belem is also nice and be sure to stop by Pasteis de Belem for pastel de nata. Enjoy your trip.

You are near the wonderful Gulbenkian Museum which is a must see.
We spent ten days in Lisbon and never ran out of things to do and see.

The best spot to watch sunrise in Lisboa is Portas do Sol up on the hill quarter. The sunrise view is very beautiful which I couldn't say for all the cities I have visited. Then you can roam in the Alfama quarter around it, a nice and relaxing quarter.

Agree about Sintra and Belem and Pasteis de Belem, they are all a must.

We visited the Gulbenkian and were enchanted, absolutely fantastic how each piece of art on display is impeccable, no matter which corner of the globe it came from and how old it is.

We did this while staying in Belém a few weeks ago, which absolutely knocked us out. There is enough right there in Belém to keep anyone busy for three or four full days:

Also visit the castelo - from Praça Figueira take bus nr. 737 ( a small one) up to the castle - the trip up the hill is something else...

We found the visit to the Fado museum hugely interesting - after you learned about the origins of the music and listened to many exponents thereof on the listening stations, ask the staff about live events at "Fado houses" that you can attend.

We took a day trip to Sintra and visited both castles - they are hugely different from each other. The one down below (well, up one level from the train station) is more sober and historically instructive. Then take the bus up to the other one up top and be amazed by the playful design, by the color scheme -just a fun experience.

The trains for Sintra leave from Rossio train station, a short walk from the Rossio metro stop which is at Praça Figueira.

We also took a day trip to Estoril and Cascais where we walked to the "Devil's Mouth" (a waterfront rock formation through which water splashes in a photogenic manner, especially at high tide). Those trains leave from Cais do Sodré, the major hub for ferries, trains, trams, and buses.

If you have the the Viva Viagem transportation card (recommended), it is valid on both the trains to Sintra and to Cascais.
