8 hr lay over in Amsterdam

I am a teacher who is headed to Cairo, Egypt via Europe. I have an 8 hour lay over in Amsterdam and hope to see the Anne Frank House. Can I hope a train and get there, see it and make it back for my flight? Is it worth the trouble? I would love to see it...I teach WWII in my classroom!

A snap -take the train from the airport to Amsterdam Centraal station and do a lovely walk along the canal to Anne Frank House - not much more than a mile and you also see the quintessential Amsterdam of the canals etched in your mind's eye.

Trains go every few minutes - buy a Daag Retour ticket - return ticket good on any train to save a few euro.

There can be fairly long lines at the Frank House however - not sure you can reserve but Google it and find out

Yes, you can reserve tickets ahead of time. We did it last May. The website has the option. You show up at your appointed time and go in a door next to the long, long line.

After passing Customs take you bags down to the lower level and stash them in the always available lockers.

Then go to the VVV or Holland Tourist Office on the main floor concourse and ask for a map and have them pinpoint the walk to the Frank house.

Then go to the nearby train station, buy your return ticket

then just be amazed by Amsterdam

(At Centraal Station go out the front entrance, cross the water on a bridge going south and turn right to the canal and turn left on it and you'll find the Frank house up about a half-mile on the left side of the canal.
