8 days vacation in Spain (seeking comments on trip ideas :)

Hi all,

I'm planning to go the Spain for an eight-day vacation and heading to Southern France afterwards, any one can give me their comments on my plans below?

I know that Toledo and Cadaques are popular places to expore, but is Consuegra also worthwhile for a day trip? is there anything interesting there on top of the windmills? I'd also like to go to Granada (the Alhambra), however, would a half day trip from Seville to there very rush or even impossible?

Day One :Madrid
Two: Day trip to Toledo and Consuegra (the place with the windmills)
Three: Madrid
Four: Madrid to Seville
Five: Seville and half day trip to Granada
Six: Seville to Barcelona
Seven: Barcelona
Eight: Barcelona to Cadaques in Catalonia

Thanks for assistance!

Eight towns in eight days - very impressive!

Except....

a) you might want 2 nights in Granada so you can actually see some of what Granada has to offer besides the Alhambra (itself an all-day affair).

b) you might want 4 full days exploring the city of Seville.

The Seville/Granada portion does need work. You'll spend almost as much on trains and buses as in the cities themselves.

When you look carefully you do not even spend one day (ie24 hours) is some cities. All I can say is what a waste.
Slow down and stop to gather in the sights, atmospheres and breath a little.
for 8 days just go to Madrid and BCN. There is more than enough to see and do for 3.5 days in each location.
I do not know where you fly into Spin from but maybe jetlag will be a problem too?
What time of year is this trip and what form of transport are you using?

"Day One :Madrid"

Assuming this is the day you fly in .... Don't expect to do too much this day ... you willmost likely be a bit tired from the flight and the time change

"Two: Day trip to Toledo and Consuegra (the place with the windmills)"

I am uncertain how far apart these 2 places are from each other, as we did them in 2 different trips, but Toledo is worth a day and the Windmills are a pretty nice drive from anything .. We were in Consuegra this past December .. it was really a cool place an different from other parts of Spain we have visited in the past. Is this a bus tour?

Three: Madrid
Four: Madrid to Seville

"Five: Seville and half day trip to Granada"

I agree with the previous posters .. you need more time in Granada ... give it a full day at best.

"Six: Seville to Barcelona"

Long trip .. are you driving, flying, bus .... ????

Seven: Barcelona
Eight: Barcelona to Cadaques in Catalonia

My family travels in a very similare fashion, but even I think this schedule may be a bit agressive, in regards to the amount of time spent in each city and the travel time between the various places .... Ribeirasacra has a good point . what time of the year are you planning on traveling?

This schedule is next to impossible. How do you plan on bsing yourself in Sevilla and spending 1/2 day in Granada when it's 6 hours r/t of travel - I guess you could just drive through Granada...

I think you need to limit yourself to Madrid and Barcelona - 4 days each. Even this is going to limit your time in Barcelona. Or spend all 8 days in Andalucia.

Really thanks to all of you responded.

I'm from Hong Kong (yes, ribeirasacra, you are right,I need to consider jet lag too!) Though I 've been taking vacation in many European countries in the past, Spain would be the first time!
I guess I'd take the advice from many of you and slow down the 'pace' of my travel in Spain, really don't want to miss so many spots in a place because of tight transport scheule. While my family members do not want to miss Madrid, we might choose sticking to Barcelona, have some day trips round there and give up the Seville part because we would be heading to South of France.

Thanks a lot for all of you really.

Regards,
Selena

I agree with the above. It is toooooo much for six days. Spain is a huge country it is not feasible to see it all in several weeks, in my mind it makes sense to concentrate in a region and leave the rest for future trips. You seem to have chosen Madrid and one nearby city that is Toledo and then Andalusia and then quiet far away Barcelona.

I would visit Madrid upon arriving and then upon leaving assuming you are going to fly to and from Madrid. Madrid is an exciting city with many great Museums but among them The Prado is one of the best in the world. Then I would concentrate in Andalusia, Sevilla is the third city in Spain and merits at least two/three days, Granada at least two and in between one day in Cordoba is worth it.
You see, you have already your hands full. Take advantage of the fast train to visit Seville, Cordoba .
You will enjoy tremendously Spain if you allocate some time to linger a little in restaurants and cafes having tapas and drinking sangria, sidra or whatever in some bars.
In my mind having more of this leasure time will be more important than rushing from city to city. Buena suerte.
