8 days in Sweden in July with kids

Hi everyone

I booked a 8 week vacation to Stockholm with hubby and two girls (ages almost 3 and 6). I would like to split the trip between Stockholm and another location perhaps in the country side. What are your suggestions here? Would love the second location to be more about nature, hiking and relaxing at the same time.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Is it 8 days or 8 weeks?

What time of year?

Have you looked at any guidebooks on Sweden?

There is more than enough to do in Stockholm for only 4 days but with kids you will have to build in some time in a playground or just running around.

Can;t help with the countryside as this is not our thing and the areas we passed through in Sweden were not very exciting - lots of evergreen trees and scrub oak. You might want to consider getting a cottage on one of the islands in the archipelago that stretches out from Stockholm - or perhaps visit the island of Gotland off the east coast of Sweden.

Sweden has alot of campsites in the countryside, some have cabins and are close to lakes where you can swim. Or some can be close to the sea. Trouble is, for this July, things will already be booked up as most Swedes have July as their month off in the summer as well as other countries.

The kids might like an elk safari or to visit a zoopark such as Kolmården which is south of Stockholm. I've never seen scrub oak in Sweden, I've seen alot of pine forests, real oaks, beech and lots of birch trees.
