Old Thing, 3 days is plenty in Rodos.

Some of my jewellery comes from
ilias lalaounis in Rodos. The shop is at the bottom of the Street of Knights (steep hill).

Keith and I stayed 5 nights at Rodos Park Hotel (outside the Amboise Gate of the old town) and if it weren't for the swimming pool, would have been bored after day 3.

Nice beach out by the aquarium, but would be naff in October!

Pepper-von-snot, I spent 7 years on Rhodes, I hardly think someone who spent 5 nights is likely to be able to tell me what is or is not enough time.

While you may think in terms of 'in' Rodos, I think in terms of 'on' Rhodes. The entire island, not just what is within a 10 minute walk of the hotel you stay in.

Lalaounis is a bit of an insider's joke when it comes to selling jewellery. But I won't let you in on the joke, it would just burst your bubble.

The Rodos Park Hotel was formerly a residence for nursing students. The surrounding area had a bit of a 'reputation' back in the day. Now it's a good spot to pick up 'women of a certain age' looking for a holiday 'romance'.

In any case, no one with an ounce of nous stays in Rhodes Town itself, either the New or the Old Town.

No one swims on the beaches by the aquarium who knows that both the town sewers and the ships passing offshore flush their sewage around that point.

The joke is on you, guv.

I am a man. Duh!

>Ilias Lalaounis is a bit of a joke<

I guess Jackie Onassis and Liz Taylor were fools then.

Thin, hates fraud posters

Dogears, were you the poster on TripAdvisor who several years ago tried to tell a resident of Rhodes there was no parking in a certain location at Rhodes Town? The resident actually had his car parked there when he replied to your post. I still laugh about that! :-D

Lalaounis happens to be one of the best and well known Jewelers of Greece.
There is a Lalaounis Museum near the New Acropolis Museum, that is worth a visit.

Rodos Park is a great hotel right next to the old town of Rhodes, I've stayed there quite often during my business trips to Rhodes and just loved it's central location.

No reputation there that i am aware of and no older ladies waiting to be picked up for romance.....

Heimdall May 25th, 2017 12:17 AM

Clausar, it was the "I spent 7 years on Rhodes" that tipped me off. Dogears has used that expression before on the different forums he frequents, but got caught out by people who actually live on Rhodes.

clausar May 25th, 2017 12:46 AM

Heimdall, different forums plus two ex posters at Fodors with the same attitude and rhetoric....

Heimdall May 25th, 2017 01:00 AM

Pepper_von_snoot (Thin) has also used different screen names, but he is always entertaining. Long live Thin!

Heimdall, you are confusing me with someone else. All I can tell you is that I do not and never have posted on Tripadvisor. I don't like their site at all and never look at it for any reason. When you Google something and links to TA come up, I purposely ignore those links and look for others.

Pepper_Von_Snot, I don't know what you being a man has to do with anything. As for Jackie Onassis and Liz Taylor being fools, I didn't know either of them personally and so would not have an opinion either way, but it doesn't mean they weren't foolish or that they were the brightest bulbs around. There is no shortage of people of all kinds who are foolish without being fools.

Clausar, yes he is well known. That doesn't mean there aren't jokes about him.

The Rodos Park is a fine hotel, I didn't say it wasn't. I simply commented on its history and what sometimes occurs more recently.
