How many days do you actually have on the ground? You can;t count the day you land (jet lag) or the day you leave (heading to airport).

When are you going?

What are your interests?

Have you looked into flights yet (assume you would do open jaw)?

If you have 8 full days PLUS the day you arrive nd leave you can do 3 places - but see each in a very cursory way. If it;s 8 days all together you can do 2 places with perhaps 1 day trip.

More info will get you better answers.

i arrive august 19 but i will be in france 19-26 i will be in italy 27-september 3 leaving the 4th back home. so i will have a full 8 days in italy.

we want to go to some museums, definitely interested in wineries in tuscany.

i have been to venice already but the person im traveling with hasnt. we were trying to choose between either venice, amalfi or capri for 2 days and i think we are better off with venice since it seems to be more feasable.

any suggestions?

Have you booked your flights? If so, where are you flying in and out? If not, what are your options? Can you fly in and out of Rome, Venice, Florence (or Pisa) and Naples? Are you likely to be jetlagged on arrival (how long is your inbound flight)?

Will you be moving around by train? What time of year is your trip?

Generally, I would suggest only two places in 8 days. But if your inbound flight (to one city) is relatively short and your outbound flight (from another city) is in the late afternoon or evening, you could perhaps squeeze in a third destination. This would be moving too fast for me, but this is your trip.

So how are you getting from France to Italy and, based on your options, where can you start?

let me try this again. i think im not being specific enough
august 18 fly out of miami to paris
august 19-24 we will be in paris
august 24-26 we will be in french riviera
august 27-29 florence
august 30-31- venice
sept 1-3 rome
sept 4 back home
from paris we are taking a flight into nice which is 1.5 hours. Not sure if we are going from nice to venice first or nice to florence. if we do nice to florence we will take a late train on the 26th sleep on train and be there early 27th. not sure if it may be easier going into vencie from nice first then down to florence and lastly rome. still not sure how we are getting around in itlay.

OK. That helps.

Consider taking the last fast train from Venice to Rome on August 31st; otherwise, your time in Rome will be barely 2.5 days.

Make reservations now for the Uffizi and Accademia in Florence, the Galleria Borghese in Rome and anything else that accepts reservations. You won't have time for standing in lines anywhere.

nothing is really set in stone. another option would be eliminate the french riviera and just spend more time in italy so that we can enjoy italy more. the reason we wanted to stop in french riviera is because we were going to meet up with family.

Our posts keep crossing....

Have you taken an overnight train before? I can't sleep on overnight trains, so I arrive sleep-deprived, and it takes me a day to catch up again. You should check the train options to see how many connections are required Florence v. Venice and which option gets you there earlier in the morning.

I'd probably give up the French Riviera. It'll be a mob scene in late August. Flying from Paris to Venice or Florence/Pisa and gaining 2-3 days would make a huge difference.

i can sleep anywhere. we might eliminate french riviera and spend 10 full days in italy. i think we rather enjoy our time in each place as opposed to hopping from place to place just to say we were there......this is so difficult. so many places so little time.
how does this look
august 19-24 paris
august 24-25- venice
august 26-29 florence
august 30-sept 3 rome
do you think this is more feasable? would we have time to maybe take a day trip to capri or amalfi if we do this instead?
