7th suggestions please.....

Hello. We are in Paris, staying at an apartment in the 7th....please suggest a favorite bakery...eateries....anything! Also, if anyone knows of a cool puppet shop in Paris, do tell......thanks!

Where in the 7th - it's a large place and you don't want to walk for 30 minutes for a bakery. Be specific and you'll get better answers.

One of our favorite restaurants there is Cafe Constant, http://www.cafeconstant.com/1.aspx

It is the baby bisto created by Christian Constant. He has some other really good restaurants in the 7ths as well:

This is his flagship high end place:

We like the casualness of Cafe Constant and the price point :)

If you are in Paris now, do you really need our advice about a bakery? Haven't you explored and experimented?

My favorite places to dine in the 7ème are Le Florimond, Café Constant, La Fontaine de Mars, Punjab, and Pizza Tina. Worst is Café du Marché on rue Cler.

Oh, such a shame to be staying in the 7th! Therefore, my suggestion is to go to one of the better arrondissements as quickly as possible.

We just had a baby, just arrived and we are tired. We wanted a quite area. I did not have enough time to do research for this trip. From what I have read.... Paris is unique to all tastes. We just need some advice. Thanks!

Oh, Kerouac, give it a REST! What St. Cirq said.
Waited a bit long for advice?

kerouac Sep 4th, 2011 09:41 AM

Some gut reactions cannot be restrained. MariaOrdish will soon understand.

I will be staying in the 7th this Fall (I know, I know Kerouac)...we hear great things about Le Florimond, La Taverna and Pasco's as well as Cafe Constant and Les Cocottes (Christian Constant places on rue St Dominique). Also, Au Petit Sud Ouest.

Bread/Pastries:
Les Champs des delices on rue St Dominique
Millet Many on rue St Dominique-pastries
Boulangerie Patisserie Menardin on rue Grenelle

all came recommended to us, also Le Notre (it is a chain)

have a great trip

I don't stay in the 7th, but if you are in a quasi-residential area, there should be a bakery within several blocks, probably 6-8 at most. But the arrondisement is large (as most are), so people can't really recommend one that would be convenient without knowing your address. I never ask people where they are, I just find one when I'm walking around wherever I'm staying without much trouble.

Just give an address and someone probably can name a bakery if you can't see one around your place.

What kind of puppets do you want? I'm never sure what people are thinking about when they ask about puppets, whether just hand sock things, marrionettes with strings, or something else. But here is a shop on Ile St Louis known for that general type of thing http://www.clairdereve.com/

YOu could also go to the Doll Museum as they have a shop and might have something http://www.museedelapoupeeparis.com

This is a kids' bookstore near where I usually stay and I think they have some puppets http://www.herberouge.com/

I imagine a lot of toy stores probably have them, also, not just specialty stores.

Kerouac,

You should really join our select group for American Thanksgiving at Violon d'Ingres on November 24!!

a bientot...

i'm afraid I agree with keroauc the 7th is bORINg and Rue Cler is s tourist trap but i do agree there are some good restaurants

denisea Sep 4th, 2011 12:09 PM

I dare you Kerouac!!

All kidding aside...you would be a welcome addition and we wouldn't tell anyone that you were in the 7th! :-)

TDudette Sep 4th, 2011 12:17 PM

Or even near a landmark....LOL

gracejoan3 Sep 4th, 2011 12:21 PM

Oh, but the western part of the 7th is so full of niceness and charm!! And the ET views, of course! So much around..could never become bored.

Great Paris neighborhoods for all to find just the one that suits each of us...and then'visit'the others!

Take what you want from rue Cler, as I do, or any of the other market streets in Paris for that matter. I do like the r. Cler brocante which I will get to again while there.

a bientot...

Joan

We will be in the 7th on Nov. 24.

I can also recommend Chez l'ami Jean and L'Affriole.

MariaOrdish Sep 5th, 2011 08:39 AM

Thanks for the advice. The places just around us didn't impress me so I was hoping for Favorties from people. I would like to say though, when someone asks for advice, you could simply be kind and give it.....I don't need travel lectures . I appreciate those of you who left some!

TDudette Sep 5th, 2011 09:08 AM

In another discussion, DebitNM very kindly gave the site below-perhaps that would help:

Good luck and sorry about the lack of responses.

kerouac Sep 5th, 2011 10:29 AM

I always appreciate your propositions, Joan, and I'm sure that some day we will want to go to the same place at the same time. ;-)

denisea Sep 5th, 2011 12:06 PM

TDudette....funny and hope that kerouac doesn't mind us having a little fun with him! Keep trying, Joan!
