7th arrondisment paris
 

Just booked a room at a hotel in the 7th aron. called Latour Maubourg. It looks lovely however I have read negative comments about staying in the 7th area. Can anyone give me some info concerning this hotel and this area. Thank you. By the way this is our first visit to Paris.

I am not sure what negative comments you might have read about the 7th - it is a beautiful area of Paris. It is quieter at night than some areas, but there are plenty of nice restaurants and great strolling opportunities. I am not postive where this hotel is, but I do know the Latour Maubourg metro stop, and if the hotel is close to that station, you'll be within close walking distance of the Invalides, Eiffel Tower, and the Rue Cler street market. I love this part of Paris, and I think you've made a good choice!

I just returned from Paris this week, where I spent three nights at the Hotel Latour Maubourg. The hotel is charming, and the owner, Maria is very nice and helpful. I believe she's British and her husband Victor is French. You'll also meet their dog Faust. The 7th is a great area, not as touristy as other locations, but with lots of great cafes, bars and restaurants frequented by locals. The hotel overlooks a park and is walking distance to the Eiffel Tower and right by the Invalides, as Beth mentioned. You'll have a great time.

I don't know the hotel, but I do know the area. The 7th arr. is a wonderful part of the city. Depending on where you are you may have to walk a bit to find a metro station, but I can't imagine why someone would have negative things to say about staying there.

I believe most of the negative comments had to do with people thinking it was a little boring, quiet, or away from some more lively areas or things they want to do. I think all of the comments have stated their reasons and can evaluate.

I don't think it is surprising to see any negative or postiive comments about almost any area. People have different tastes. There is no area that one ever could agree about as being wonderful for everyone or that would suit everyone. For example, I'm not crazy about the main part of St-Germain as a place to stay but most people on here adore it.

I think one advantage of this board is that you get a variety of opinions. Hopefully, the person giving one will explain a little as to their reasoning and likes/dislikes so you can evaluate things. (eg, I don't like main part of St-Germain because it is too crowded, too expensive and too touristy).

I love the 7th. There are a lot of terrific restaurants and shops, the Rue Cler and, best of all, it's quiet when you want to go to sleep. I know a lot of people like to stay in St. Germain because there is more activity at night. However, when I stayed in St. Germain, our hotel was very noisy. So if you want action at night, take the metro to St. Germain. When you're ready to sleep, go back to the 7th heaven.

Well, here I go... We stayed near L'Ecole Militaire in the 7th last year and hated it. The neighborhood was mostly residential, the restaurants we found were expensive and stuffy, and our block closed up tight after about 9 PM. I think we were very spoiled by our previous stays in the 6th, which has wonderful bistros, cafes, LIFE, and easy accessiblity to the Latin Quarter. Obviously, it really depends what you're looking for, but in my humble opinion, there's no comparison between the 7th and the 6th.

If you go the Hotel section of Fodors, you can find numerous comments about the hotel. My name is Margaret and I posted a comment earlier this year about my experience staying at the hotel last year. In a nutshell, I think the hotel is wonderful and the neighborhood a winning mixture of residential and commercial (with a healthy supply of restaurants thrown into the mix!).

I stayed at the L.T. in 98' , You could not ask for better hosts in Paris then Marie and Victor, and of course their sweet dog too.

I agree with the other posters who like the 7th. It's quiet at night which can be a blessing in central Paris. There are good restaurants about and many attractions (Eiffel Tower, Musee D'Orsay, Luxembourg Garden, Invalides, etc.) are in walking distance. If you want lots of nightlife then it's not the place to stay.
